View Full Version : It's our first ever INCHIE a Thon!!!

11-06-2008, 10:39 AM
This is open to everyone!

Start time (in your time zone - when your clock says 5:00 pm Start) Nov 7, 2008 - 5:00 pm

End time (in your time zone) Nov 9, 2008 - 11:59 pm

__________________________________________________ ___________________

so post your inches and rinches to this thread - here is how to post from the photo hosting site http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2115
www.photobucket.com is another photo hosting site that is easy to use. you may also use your gallery or upload from your computer.

to post a pic from your gallery

go to your pic in your gallery - left click on the pic to bring up the menu - click on properities - this brings up the info on your pic - copy the address - go to your post and hit the "insert image" button (looks like a postcard) paste the address into the window that pops up and and hit ok - that puts the code into your post for your pic to show up

To make a picture loaded from the gallery smaller, you can change the last piece of the coded address. Notice the end of the code "w=l" (for large); you can change this after you paste it into your message to w=m (for medium) or w=s (for small).

(leaving the last bracket off the above so you can see how the address will look)

this pic is just a sample :)

To post a picture from your computer - one that is NOT uploaded to your gallery:

1. click POST REPLY at the bottom of the messages screen. Above the message box, click the paperclip next to the smiley face. Then upload as usual. This will upload your pic as a thumbnail.

2. If you go into the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the messages screen, click GO ADVANCED and you will get the paperclip above the message box.

__________________________________________________ __________________

trading will go on thru out the weekend - please pm the artist you would like to trade with rather than posting to the thread to insure they see your request - also please remember this is not first come first serve

And have fun - these "a thons" are fast and furious - but they are soooo much fun!!!

This is our first inch a thon so here's the link to our last few Collage a Thons so you can see how they run - this will run very much like them.

Darn just saw this- with a few days off would be good to give these little boogers a try... will get back to you!

11-06-2008, 07:00 PM
Okay, now I know how most -a-thons work, but I'm a bit new to inchies. I've noticed that they tend to get traded in sets. Should we be creating and trading sets, or do single inchies work too?

11-06-2008, 07:29 PM
Sounds great. Hopefully i'll be able to devote some time to this. Missed the last few a-thons and i'm having withdrawals LOL

11-06-2008, 10:41 PM
Sounds like fun :)

11-06-2008, 11:25 PM
I would leave it open - either sets or singles - I would state when you post yours what you are looking for.

11-07-2008, 02:57 PM
I have a few background done (from where I had to trim a skinny page down) not sure what I will put on them yet - anyone else?

11-07-2008, 03:13 PM
I am HSC marking today but will try and pop in tomorrow - have a few ideas brewing

11-07-2008, 03:51 PM
Well, I came home, wasted an hour on here (;)) and then started on my inchies, but I am not happy with what I have achieved so far!

And, the cat is beginning to think he isn't going to get fed tonight!

I'll keep going and post if I feel anything is up to standard.

11-07-2008, 03:57 PM
Never played a Thon, so it is a bit strange to start, but here they are:

This is my first a-thon (not sure why that makes me giggle, but it does), so I'm totally psyched! Hubby has been told to leave me alone tonite, that there is art that must be made.. or at least attempted!

11-07-2008, 04:40 PM
Bright-Spark - can't wait to see what you come up with.

Nelleke - nice - really like your A for apple

CreativeWench - nearly time - can't wait to see your inchies.

She wasted an hour baiting me LOL
I might manage some this w/e but last time I made some I got into a right old mess!!

11-07-2008, 05:16 PM
FF is right, as ever.....

Anyway, here is my first attempt which I am not happy about.

Going to get something to eat, feed the cat, and see if inspiration hits once we are both fed!

UPDATE - IF traded

11-07-2008, 05:18 PM
I didn't make these inchies for the Thon. I have inchies enough to post some more this weekend. :)

11-07-2008, 06:07 PM
We've got some nice work showing up so far. I was intending to make some inchies last night, but instead made three rolos and re-painted a monkey.

11-07-2008, 07:46 PM
Here are five inchies for trade..........

11-07-2008, 09:58 PM

11-07-2008, 10:08 PM
LOVE your houses Katie! I am sick but may play a little bit!

11-07-2008, 11:00 PM
So here are 10 from me. I am open to trading singly or for more. I would like to get at least 2 trades out of this so I will trade a max of 5 to one person. These are beeswax inchies BTW!

11-07-2008, 11:07 PM
Everyone's inchies are very beautiful :)

I've never made an inchie before but I hope to jump on the bandwagon tomorrow. This ought to be a lot of fun :D

What do you guys do with your inchies? Do you put them in albums? Use them in collage? Does anyone have an interesting way of displaying their inchies? I never even heard of them until this week but I love the idea of miniature pieces of art.

11-07-2008, 11:13 PM
I put them in a binder using binder sheets meant for slides and coins. I would fill iffy about using them in a collage as they are another artists work, but then again, so are photographs. I like to show them off to my friends who aren't so artsy so they can see what can be done in a small amount of space.

11-08-2008, 12:21 AM
I feel like I am the only one playing! here are 5 more, they can go singly or as a set. this is a preview of what I am doing for KatieV's metallic swap!

11-08-2008, 01:02 AM
Katilady, firstly I hope you are feeling a bit better! and secondly great inchies! Love both sets.....

I hope to get on with some more this afternoon......

11-08-2008, 01:09 AM
Thanks Margaux! I am taking lots of over the counter meds so I am a bit loopy, but hopefully I will be better soon. My nose is raw!

11-08-2008, 02:14 AM
Carol - those are beautiful - I really like the ducky.

Katie - such a cute little neighborhood you have there.

Katilady - lovely selection of inchies.

11-08-2008, 02:30 AM
I'm loving the inchies posted. I have started a bunch, but they aren't finished and it is wayyy past my bedtime so I will have to finish 'playing' tomorrow evening :)

11-08-2008, 02:39 AM
Well GG, either dedication or madness, done some more this morning. Don't know why I only did four!??!

The colours don't show as well in the photo....

Right, off to get breakfast, I will be back later today!

11-08-2008, 07:31 AM
It doesn't look like too many people are playing, but I found time to make two sets.

11-08-2008, 11:42 AM
Wow! Great inchies, ladies!
I'm off to teach a class this morning and have our monthly art group gathering this afternoon, so energy permitting, I'll be back later tonight. Definitely tomorrow.
Keep up the great art! :)

11-08-2008, 11:55 AM
Well I got up early to work on swaps and inchies but I've spent the last hour chasing around after a dog in the pasture with the goats - the pasture dogs were beating up on poor guy but that is their job to protect the goats - we covered the whole 10 acres :err: his name is Rex (he has a tag thank goodness) called the vet who called his owner who will be coming by shortly to collect his dog - I'm covered in burrs and stickers (never wear fuzzy clothes (sweat paints and a warm fuzzy sweater) in a overgrown field) but while all that was happening my first group of inchies were drying <G>

so here is what I have to start with.

11-08-2008, 12:05 PM
monarch - those are beyond cute!

katilady - love all of your inchies! very cool.

CreativeWench - beautiful inchie!

KatieV- you are a inchie queen! fab inchies!

Nelleke - such cute flower inchies and love the birds too!

LuvLoz - so cool and pretty!

Bright-Spark - love your inchies - fab!

pardon me while I go throw something at my little dog, Goose who hasn't stopped barking in that high pitched bark of hers since Rex got here - not really but OMG that is like a needle thru the brain - hurry up Rex's owner

11-08-2008, 02:07 PM
LMAO! Or maybe he just can't handle us women! ;)

11-08-2008, 02:10 PM

ROFL!!

I've been updating my original post (19 (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showpost.php?p=261878&postcount=19)) with my new inchies as I get them done.

11-08-2008, 03:04 PM
Aww, thank you, GoatGoddess :)

Everyone has really great inchies. Monarch, your bird ones are very sweet!

11-08-2008, 03:51 PM
More inchies.......

If anyone wants to trade, please PM me!

UPDATE - all now traded

11-08-2008, 03:59 PM
As an aside GG, interested to hear what will happen to Rex the dog?

I know that here, if a dog is caught worrying sheep he/she will probably be put down, if the farmer hasn't already shot it.....

Sounds harsh, but the dog can't normally be relied upon not to do it again, and it's the farmer's livelihood at stake.

Obviously, I'm not speaking about here, in the middle of Edinburgh (where there are few sheep), but in the countryside!!

11-08-2008, 05:16 PM
Great to see more people getting into the game and chatter.

Nelleke - wonderful style on those inchies.

Bright-Spark - love those flowers, I'll be sending you a PM.

GG - sorry to hear about Rex, I hope he's been taken home now. The inchies are sweet.

Monarch - stunning work, you made only picking two very hard.

KatieV - please post new threads as you go. I'm too forgetful to remember to go back and check your original post each time, and I don't want to miss your beauitful work. You've got me eyeing off some of those hearts.

11-08-2008, 05:44 PM
Some more, probably the last from me tonight! Some others in progress....

UPDATE: four traded, only two left

11-08-2008, 06:07 PM
I completed 9 inchies but they are rather wet with paint. When they dry, I'll scan them and upload the picture. There is one with a picture of a woman's lips on it. Sorry Kati but that's the closest I can come to women wrangling today because I'm still suffering from post-birthday concussions.LOL

11-08-2008, 06:18 PM
Hah, we were right!! But then women usually are............

Will he bite, will he??

OooOooo! I see some nice inches. I only make rinches so I'll just watch from the sidelines.

11-08-2008, 09:50 PM
Rex's owner came to collect him around noon so Rex is ok - Goats are ok too - our goat dogs won't let anything near their herd of goats - Yildez and Puppy are huge Akbash dogs (their heads hit at my waist) I had a goat killed by a neighbors dog back in the early 80's before we got our first LGD's (Livestock Guardian Dogs) Rex got beat up a bit but I got to him before he got hurt. I have a soft heart for animals in general so having these LGD's keep the goats safe and usually no one will even try to come into the pasture, they bark a lot but that let's dogs and coyotes know that it would be better for them to just trot on by our pastures.

got some more inchies to post here in a min - love everyone's inchies :jiggy:

11-08-2008, 09:56 PM
Here is my second set - NiteOwl - come and post some rinchies - I have two :)

11-08-2008, 10:14 PM
Oh! So THAT'S what rinchies are!

They remind me of pog :D

11-09-2008, 12:43 AM
OooOooo! I see some nice inches. I only make rinches so I'll just watch from the sidelines.

Oh, I think you should jump in to. You might inspire us to make a few rinchies too. :)

11-09-2008, 01:09 AM
whew! I think I'm all inchied out. All of my inchies are in my gallery and in this post (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showpost.php?p=261878&postcount=19). PM me for a trade :)

Those are both lovely sets, KatieV and Nelleke.

Here are two more from me. Probably all I'll make, since it's 7pm on Sunday now. I had fun, thanks!

These, may, or may not, be my last set. I do have some other stuff I should be getting on with! ;)

11-09-2008, 11:34 AM

too much homework to do!

11-09-2008, 11:37 AM
Oooooooh, more and more beautiful inchies!!

11-09-2008, 12:56 PM
The inchies are dry this morning so I could finally scan them

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/184/large/1_inchiethon.jpg (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=44559)

They are a mixed bag of handpainted and collaged inchies. The scan seems to have washed out the color pretty badly...time for a new scanner.

Top to Bottom, Left to Right............Traded 2,3, 5,6,7,8

11-09-2008, 01:03 PM
addicted2shoppn - how very cool - so chic :)

Pixeldog - wonderful little gems of art :)

haven't had a chance yet to play - have to run to town and hit a few stores be back in a bit to play

11-09-2008, 01:07 PM
My muse has well and truly left me this weekend- might tempt her back with some of these gorgeous inchies- well done everyone!
I dug out some bits for backgrounds- and then decided to clean out a cupboard to make space for my Kenwood mixer.... throw two boxes of stuff away so far this evening!

11-09-2008, 01:27 PM
What lovely inchies you all are posting! Here's what I created last night... collaged using backgrounds I had on hand.
Traded: Top row: all; Middle row: far right, Bottom row: first two on left.

11-09-2008, 05:09 PM
Oh, very lovely work everyone! I think I'll be sending out some more trade requests. :)

11-09-2008, 05:29 PM
Oh man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been so busy lately, that I JUST seen this! I only have a few hours left, so I don't think I'll get any made in time. Hopefully there is a second one, and I'll get to play in that! :)

11-09-2008, 06:05 PM
Right, these are definitely my last!!!

Not for ever, just for tonight and this inchie a thon. I know there are a couple of hours to go to the deadline here, but I am whacked, not because of the inchies, so it is off for some

Thanks to everyone who PMd to trade. I should get these off to you tomorrow.

And BIG thanks to goatgoddess for organising.

11-09-2008, 10:33 PM
This is what I have available if any one wants to trade.........I'm done now...........Thanks you guys for trading with me!!! I had fun!!!

Ohh, love those stars!

GG - the birdies are so pretty.

I still have a host of heart inchies available if anyone is interested.

11-10-2008, 11:04 AM
I may have to devote some time to this. Ive never taken part in an inchie a thon or any for that matter. Hmmm. Definatly

11-10-2008, 12:44 PM
Trinket - they are fun to make - there are swaps in the forum (over in the mail art forum - http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=40) this one is over now but I'm sure there are still inchies to be traded :jiggy:

and I'm sure we will have a another inchie a thon at some point :)

11-10-2008, 12:50 PM
I'll bet you could - I'm hopeless and always get behind but I'm determed to finish this one out during class time.

Blueskysunburn has the link posted in the very first post of this thread

lesson 4 just got posted - there are six weeks of lessons.

11-10-2008, 03:57 PM
Wow I can't get over how beautiful everyone's inchies are :)

I made two more this weekend and just uploaded them to my gallery.

The snail and cactus have been traded, but the others are available if anyone is up for a trade. :)

01-13-2009, 05:57 AM
When is the next inchie-a-thon?????

01-13-2009, 12:25 PM
Hi Boatbird I am up for one as well maybe we should discuss a time, mid - end of February? Possibly the weekend of the 20-22?

01-13-2009, 12:45 PM
boatbird has a new thread up for the next one :)
