Swap Due Date - March 8
Signup/withdraw date - March 1
Number of Cards - 4 for 4
Number of participants - unlimited

Clean it out!!! A MIXED MEDIA chunky book swap

I have tons of scrap papers, coupons, tickets, notes, etc in my purse, wallet, and pockets and I thought it would be fun to use these odds & ends on a chunky book page!

Objective:
Create Mixed Media 4"x4" chunky book pages.
Please use a minimum of 3 types of media.
Please do not just throw some scrap pieces of paper down and call it done. Be creative, colorful, and funky! Put some thought and effort into the whole design. (Think lots of layers and colors, collages and/or drawings)

Example (Pre-chunk): http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/477/large/1_CIO_-_Growin_Boy.jpg
Media Used:
Collaged scrap papers from the bottom of my purse
Tissue Paper
W.S. oil pastels
Rubber stamps
Dove wrappers cut & collaged as birds
acrylic paints
Staples
(Chunky fibers, etc to come)

All the basic information:

The pages will be due on March 8. If you decide you can't complete the swap for any reason, it's totally fine! Things come up, and priorities change. No problem. If pages are late without communication, or if a withdrawal from the swap isn't communicated with me before the swap due date, I will leave a neutral iTrader rating for those participants. Basically, just let me know what's up, and all is good.

All artists should confidently send in work that highlights their own level of skill, but all the results should consistently show time and care. ALL pages must be original artwork.

NOTE: I am politely asking that members of this swap do not use scrapbook & greeting card embellishments [like stickers, jolee's bits, paper flowers, etc.] as part of their page design. However, incorporating printed papers and basic hardware [brads & eyelets] is fine.

Chunky pages can have fibers, wire, beads, tags and/or assorted weird things dangling off of and around the edges, but the pages themselves should not be so thick that they can't close comfortably into a book. Feel free to use sewing machine stitching, staples, brads, eyelets and other more offbeat fasteners on your pages.

Please avoid sticky pages . . . each card should be enclosed in a sandwich/zippie bag. Cheapo bags from the dollar store are fine--these also keep any pages from melting into one giant heap.

U.S. Postage:
SASE--When you take your chunky book pages to have them mailed, BEFORE sealing the envelope, have it weighed and then add the same amount of loose postage to the envelope. Or, if you like, pop 2 well-concealed dollars in the envelope. (Paypal is also available for $2.50. My paypal information is listed below.)

International Postage:
International players can send U.S. currency, or use PayPal. (Paypal user name: corrie_manning@yahoo.com) PayPal will require a 50-cent bump, to cover their fee. These are low-ball estimates; I'll cover any overages in postage cost.
Canada: 2.50 [3.00 PayPal]
Australia/Europe: 4.00 [4.50 PayPal]

i ever so carefully peeled it off to save it for my pages! LOL!

ah, this looks so interesting... i'm going to subscribe to this thread and maybe sign up later, i have a couple things going on already and don't want to over-commit.
Question - you guys have more experience, so what do you think: is it ok to use the corrugated cardboard as a base? like from a regular brown box, the wavy layer inside and paper on the outside? I personally like the tile look and feel of it, but I'm worried that it may be too thick if someone is actually binding the pages into a book... Thanks in advance for your help!

corrie04
01-08-2009, 09:02 AM
I'm fine with it. I don't think it's any thicker than mat board or a coaster would be. Not sure how others feel, though.

BTW, I hope you come back and join! :)

As long as my Crop-a-Dile can punch a hole in the corner, I'm fine with it. :) I kinda like the idea of something a bit different than standard chipboard.

xraypinky

I have considered the bra tag before too - I think mine said age defying lift or something like that - aren't we a weird bunch!

amyfaerie
01-11-2009, 01:48 AM
i know! lol! the things we keep . . . just silly!

i've held onto that bra tag for a while . . . nothing says "get your big, fat, sagging boobs back up where they were meant to be" like a bra that's made for "full figure uplift."

Amyfaerie you have convinced me to join! I hope I recieve one of your pages they are gorgeous. I have been working on some zetti pages using reciepts (I like to create my pages before I sign up, reduces my stress!). So please sign me up.

I noticed the post on what to use for the chunky book backgrounds and I found a great place on etsy which custom cut chipboard back for me for around $0.30 a piece which was great and they also have them in clear acrylic. I have thought about using the costers but really like the square edges. I am currently awaiting them in the mail and am hoping they come soon so I can start playing with them!

Regarding what to use for chunky pages--I work in an office that uses a lot of legal pads and I've always saved the backings, hoping one day I would have a use for them. Since I discovered chunky pages, I use my papercutter with a new blade and cut a whole bunch up in one sitting, then I have lots to play with. See...we really do save all these things for good reason:) [I got a giggle out of the bra tag as well!]
HUGS!

corrie04
01-11-2009, 03:32 PM
Ohhhh... that's a great idea for the reuse of legal pad backings.

Would it be possible to sign up for 8/8 instead of 4/4? If not would anyone like to trade extra pages 1/1? Thanks!

corrie04
01-11-2009, 06:54 PM
Katie - To keep things as uncomplicated as possible (for me)... I'd prefer to keep it 4/4. (Trust me... you want me to keep it simple!! *G*)

01-18-2009, 11:36 PM
My vote is for the tree Rachel! I have been "forcing" myself to finish my other swaps that are due before this one before I completely submerge myself into the chunkies like I am really dying to do. So many swaps, so little time. Couldn't I just like hook my brain up to a USB port and while I sleep I can create in my dreams, and then just hit print in the morning? Is that so much to ask? tee hee hee

corrie04
01-19-2009, 03:15 PM

I love this swap! I cannot stop making chunky pages and will most likely have some to post for 1/1 trades in addition to the swap if anyone would like. I will try to post pics later today.

By the way if we can bribe then I love Rachel's girl with the compass and am jumping up and down with my fingers crossed hoping for one of amyfaerie chunky pages with the faces, so wonderful!!!! Beautiful work ladies.

This was originally OY's idea and I like it... so I'm stealing it.

Hey April... I'm assuming that you're getting married on May 7th, in Gatlinburg? That's where I got married to my current husband. (Of course, we lived in Knoxville at the time.) It's Beautiful there! But beware of the TRAFFIC!... Of course, if it's your honeymoon, you may not even notice the traffic. *wink*

yup! We're getting married there alright - we've got a log cabin we rented too. I can't wait - we've never been there before. I've heard the traffic is the worst part. :goofy:

YAY thanks Corrie for the update

and oh yes April The traffic there is insane. Kind of boggled my mind for how bad it was. But that's a beautiful spot so enjoy!
