Due: April 25th
Sign Up By: April 15th
Withdraw By: April 15th
Number of Dolls: 3 for 3
Participants: Up to 30 (Up to 5 international players)

**** Layered Mixed Media Paper Dolls! ****

Let the child in you emerge, as you make Paper Dolls to share with friends. :) C'mon, you know you want to play!

Here are the DETAILS:

Dolls should be at least 7 inches tall, but not more than 10 inches tall. (So they fit in a large size bubble envelope.)
Dolls can be the "stationary" variety, or can be hinged and foldable/poseable.
Make them sturdy - use light chipboard or heavy watercolor paper for your base.
Layer them - this is mixed media, so use at everything! Pencils, paints, glazes, collage papers, embellishments...just make sure attachments and embellishments are secure.
No sticky dolls! Choose your sealer with care, and allow enough drying time.
Boy dolls are welcome too!
Package each doll separately, and clearly mark doll/package with:Real Name,Location,User Name, Any other additional info you'd like to share.

MAIL your dolls in a LARGE BUBBLE ENVELOPE. I will try to recylce the same envelope for your returns.

US residents, please enclose a large return lablel and $3 in postage stamps or well concealed cash. (I prefer stamps, then I can easily return any excess postage. :) )
International players: please include a large return label. I will cover postage for up to 5 players.

**PM me for my address when you are ready to send. :)

As with all swaps, please do your best work. Make something you would be thrilled to receive! Post pictures of your dolls in the thread for extra love and inspiration!

I found some templates that people can use for the arms and legs, sometimes those can be tricky:
-Mirkwood Designs (http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwooddesigns/paperdoll.pdf)
-Kiddley (http://kiddley.com/2006/11/01/diy-paper-doll-templates/)- simple doll design, as well as clothing!
-Aliciag.com (http://www.aliciag.com/classes/images/doll1a.jpg) - FUNKY doll faces
-Milliande (http://www.milliande.com/Free-Paper-Doll-and-Clothes-Dresses.html) - LOTS of clothes and dresses and links (scroll down)
-TheEnchantedGallery (http://www.theenchantedgallery.com/paperdolls.html) GREAT variety (mermaids, differnt arms, etc.)

Sadly, not as much as I'd like... but insomnia does allow for extra time online with my artist friends, and sometimes strangely creative moments! Yes folks, it is not quite 4 in the morning here, and I've been up for awhile. :)

Dadreemer

What's the minimum size?

question on the size... i think you said 7", but not more then 10".... suppose its a foldable doll with moving parts and when it's folded its 8", is that ok?

If it's 8" folded, how big is it when unfolded?
I didn't want the dolls to be tiny...but they need to fit in an envelope for mailing...

JoyFlower
02-12-2009, 08:55 PM
What's the minimum size?

At least 7 inches tall :)

I figured if they were all between 7 and 10 inches, it makes them pretty comparable in size...

But I am thinking of hosting a "mini doll" swap next. :) Then they would all need to be LESS than six inches...

artrageous
02-12-2009, 08:58 PM
LOL... they aren't even strated yet, lol... i didnt want to start them and they be wrong. so as long as they fit into a regular envelope when folded they will be ok?

JoyFlower
02-12-2009, 09:02 PM
As long as they fit in an envelope and aren't too far off from the 10 inch height, it will be okay - just no "Giant" dolls, please! :)

If you are using a template you can always use your print settings or a copier to reduce the size if needed.

nanner
02-12-2009, 09:02 PM
I like the idea of a decent size, Pesto. And your "fits in an envie" is a fair description.

Oh, and one last thing...if Oz touches it, I WANT it. Girlfriend has got skills.

I think shooting for an 8" tall doll (opened, or whatever) is my goal. I want her to be able to easily hang out with the other dolls from the swap, not too big or too small. I have a few dolls that are similar in size, and they all look really nice together this way.

Are the dolls to be mounted on backgrounds?

Thanks for asking, Corrie. :) No, backgrounds are not needed. My intention was that the dolls would be either stationary cutouts or jointed cutout dolls. Like we played with as kids, but artsy!!
*I don't think that was very clear in the opening of the thread, so if they do have backgrounds it's still ok!*

Kati - she's delightful! (Can we say that there is paper in those tape measure limbs?) It is Mixed Media Paper Dolls....and I want to see her up close!! :D

But let's try to get closer to the paper doll theme for the next one.... I hear rumor that a very creative friend we all know is planning an art doll swap that will be more of an "anything goes" kind of deal....so we can save up some chunky dolly ideas for that

Fair enough everyone?? Feel free to chime in!
