Count me in, too!

The SAT last weekend really flew by for me. I really wanted to do the Sunday challenge / themes of ATCs with 1) Embellishments, and 2) animals but I ran out of time. I think am gonna just pick right up there starting tomorrow!

I better get cleaning and organizing and background making!

Yay - love the spontaneity of another quickie a-thon, Char. THANKS SO MUCH!!

(edited to add.....

I totally suck at collage LOL so will have to maybe collage some funky papers onto backs and then stamp over it- about as collage-y as I get!)

I have a family function to go to tonight and then I'm visiting my BF over in Indiana this weekend. I have a bare bones craft room at his place, but would not have access to all my supplies there (although he does have some cool stamps I can borrow). Maybe that will add to the challenge. So I will try to drop in and have some cards for trading when I can.

My first 2-
Left- How Things Have Changed- print of vintage outerwear on a painted label with print underneath, overstamped in gold & bronze, Paper flowers w/ button brad, 2 brass safety pins & ripped paper scrap with saying. TRADED
Right- Packing Tape transfer on parchment paper w/ brass clock charm and typed saying.
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/pjmclnj/411256367307_0_ALB.jpgTRADED

** the label used in the first transfer is a lesson in never throw anything out! My son inadvertently printed one of his papers for school on sheets of 2x4 labels I had in the printer. I can't bear to just throw them out so I painted thinly over them to let the print show through faintly ( as no one really needs to read about women's role in the local police force!)

Here are 2 more-I have always loved pin-up art since I was a little girl looking through my cousin's old copies of playboy and some others. Alberto Vargas at his heyday!
The backgrounds are done as DTP inkpads applied with sponges.

I use mostly full ink pads from CTMH- a friend is a sales person for them. And yes- DTP meanss direct to paper. I use make-up triangles to give a pounced effect. I like how it lets me make things light or dark. If I use a wet sponge it looks like water colors- very nice!

*waving* Helloooooo everyone. Just getting started here. The clock just struck 5:00pm on the West Coast, USA!

Oh Patti! I love, love, love packing tape transfers! Since you are so kind and generous with your techniques, can you explain or show where the printed labels with paint are? I can't see it in the cards you uploaded in post #35.

I am just starting out the weekend here on the opposite side of the US (Hello from Seattle!) so I don't have anything yet for this a-thon (notice how I am staying safe with the generic term? LOL), but when I do perhaps we could trade? I can't wait to see if you post more packing tape transfer cards.

Thanks!!

Hello, Char! As usual, you are waaay ahead of us. (And not only because you are on the other side of the planet and a day ahead either! *grin*)

Patti M
04-10-2009, 08:20 PM
Phinny- the painted label is adhered to the base- here is a picture of the labels when I painted them- you can just see the print through them. In the card I also stamped some feather desgn in gold & brass over the paint- so it doesn't show well in the photo- but you can see it in this pic.-
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/pjmclnj/646899367307_0_ALB.jpg

So basically I peeled off the sticker and cut it to fit most of the base- stamped w/ metallics- mounted the pic- added the embellishments and the ripped cardstock and saying. I will admit- the safety pins were the hardest part- they don't want to stay flat!!

This is an old card of mine but I wanted to post it to show another use for labels in ATC's- these aer the tiny little labels for price marking or such- you can fit 4 rows of 4 on an ATC- I stamped an image on them, colored it and apply them a row at a time- seal them with tinted modpodge- very cool look!

I don't have any of the small stickers in my house at the moment- but if I hit the stores tomorrow- I certainly will!! oh- and you peel the stickers back a row at a time and place them that way. I almost always had to do the last row by hand- they just get too loose at thatpoint. It is a fun way to use rubber stamps though. It works great with larger landscape (5"x4") stamps- and I have a few of those!
I did tint the mod podge my self- I just added a little tan acrylic paint to it- just a few drops.

Well--this is a very busy weekend for me...but how can I resist trying to squeeze in a few s and c -at cards! Cause I am just a little imp-ish! LOL

Btw--scat, when used as a verb, can either mean to leave (like when you tell a kitty to scat!) or dance! To scat...is a type of dancing!

BUT, I like the imp added at the front...cause an imp can be an, um...tricky or devious little guy! And, I sure can be both of those! LOL! I used to call my kids "imps' when they were up to something sneaky! Just a fun little teasing word!

So, an impscat....we are sneaky little guys dancing around! LOL!

Patti--can you explain the packing tape transfer to me? I have tried following a tutorial, and the image always comes off the tape! I know it has to be either ink jet or laser...which was it? And, are there any other requirements that "must" be in order to make it work? Is there a special type of packing tape?
Then, how do you affix the image to the card? Do you cut all around the image, or stick it on the card so the "blank" tape around the image shows? Is it sticky enough to stick itself, or do you add adhesive of some kind?

And, is the sky blue? How do bumblebees fly?
LOL

Each of the kids colors one dozen--that is 5 dozen. One of the kids is actually a nephew who lives with me... I am going to go pick up his mom so she can be part of the process with her son...so, will have a dozen for her...that makes 6 dozen. Then, I always boil an extra dozen to cover the "Breakage". Cause if a couple children break their eggs, they get upset that they don't get to color a WHOLE dozen! LOL.

IF any are left over, I color the last few!

do you colour them too Tam???

Tam- you need to use clear Packaging tape- the kind they seal boxes with. I buy mine at staples or costco most of the time. You need to use either LASER-JET copies or newspaper , or magazines. I haven't used the mags- but I have done the newspaper and Laser jet. The ones I am using here are all from Laser-jet copies.
Once you rub off all the paper- I find it is best to lay them out and let them dry a bit before you use them. If I used them right away I found they clouded up sometimes. Anyhow, I lay them out overnight-sticky side up! Although they are still sticky- you do need to glue them down a bit. When I started I asked around here and everyone who responded said the same thing- we all use glue sticks for them. Works well for this medium.

I do my laser copies at work- I only have an ink jet at home- but all we have at work is laser jet- so I bring in a pack of paper and they let me make copies. I know others go to staples , or other copy centers, and have them done there.

TRADED a long time ago! Thanks, Patti! You are a doll for doing show and tell on your techniques.

Love the cards so far everyone. This is gonna be a fun weekend!! :)

So, if I can squeeze out a little time tomorrow, after egg dying in the morning, and scavenger hunt planning...Oh, yeah..and SLEEPING!....maybe I can get something made!

Helen- I just made this to show you what I mean about the dry sponge/wet sponge application of inks. I inked the entire card with dry sponges and ink pads- then I wet a sponge and dampened one side to show you the difference-
http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k261/pjmclnj/210769367307_0_ALB.jpg

I like sponging ink onto paper. It gives it such a different effect. I keep a large supply of cosmetic sponges around so I have plenty. And you can keep using them over and over and over. I just keep them in my ink drawer.

This is a total collage card- no stamping here! I have had this picture for a few years and always wanted to make some sort of statement with it about our obsession with youth and plastic surgery. I recently read an article about teenager's and them getting plastic surgery to look like models!! How ridiculous is that! So I say- Celebrate You! Love your imperfections- they make you an individual!-

LOL!

LOVE the fun with this word, Char!

Just don't google scat....you don't want that kind of stuff on your computer! :swoon:

Hi Ducky

How do you do thumbnails. I have a few ATCs I'd like to post here, however, I can't get the copy function to work. The only way I seem to be able to post pics to threads is to copy as a link to my gallery and you can't see the pic without clicking on the link.

Here are still some cards. Two first I made yesterday and two last ones I made today. It's getting late here. Are we going to play tomorrow, on Monday?

Well, I guess I'm not contributing much here! I didn't even get online at all yesterday!

I did however, start on my Chocolate swap cards yesterday, but had to scrap my whole plan A and started on plan B today.

So I don't think I'll be able to make anything for this event, sorry!

Dang I just found this because I saw a IMPSCAT card in the gallery! 10 pages to read through .... had lot's of comments to make as I read, I will try to remember some of them ...

First, had to laugh at all the hoopla about SCAT. IMPSCAT is cute but next time why not just switch cllage and stamping CSAT? As fo The Scat Man Cruthers I once waited on him when I waitressed in North Hollywood we got to chat a little and he was a very nice man!

As for the dozen eggs per child, That is exactly what my mom did! There were 4 of us kids and we got to color and find a dozen eggs. I boiled two dozen for my son who was an only child and we colored them together. But I also hid plastic eggs for him.

I loved the label techniques and the wet sponge stamp to paper techniques! Thanks for sharing them.

As for the tape transfer. I never use glue sticks, I hate them, it's gotta just be me, but thats how it is. I use gel medium. I get my copies from staples, when I used those I printed myself the ink bled. But I have been told that you could iron the image and heat set it before you do the tape transfer. Also You may have to buy in bulk (6 rolls), or buy tape with a big bulky handle thing, but they do have (2 1/2? or) 3 inch wide packing tape at Staples. The normal stuff is just 2 inches wide. Then you can cove a whole card. Also I have even done a narrow strip using the shiney scotch tape. It was good for adding a bit of text.

All the cards are awsome, I'm sorry I could not be a part of it. My computer and my art supplies are in two different trailers, I am headed over to do some art and will check back in tonight. May have something to post here then, who knows.\

Happy Easter my friends ....

Right click on an image in your gallery you want to insert here- scroll down the list that appears to 'Properties' then copy the image location (left click, highlight text, right click Copy) then come back here, click on the little picture of the mountains (next to the world with links above the box where you type a reply and voila! A posted image from your gallery!
Thanks Boatbird, I'll give it a try. I've got to upload the ATCs I made yesterday and last night and once I do I'll try your tip.:D

.*waving* Hi, Linda! I saw your comments yesterday and wanted to respond but I haven't had a minute until now.

:idea:Thanks for passing on the tips about ironing ink jet images to heat set - I will have to try that. I have an ink jet printer and getting toner copies isn't easy. Besides, in the throws of creativity, it's hard to stop and then pick it back up again once I have the right image, kwim? A friend of mine just did a tutorial on a new way to do ink jet transfers using the Orange Clean cleaning product. If anyone is interested I can PM or post the link.

Good tip, too, about the 2 1/2" rolls of clear packing tape. I had heard that before but forgotten about it.

Hope to see you in our next a-thon, which will hopefully be soon. (Hint, hint to Cher! *smile*)

Can you post the link about the ink jet transfers here or PM me? I agree, it's tough to run out and get toner copies especially if you like working late at night. The nearest 24 hour copy shop is at least twenty minutes from me and not necessarily in an area I'd want to venture to alone in the wee hours of the night.

Ok as for the heat setting I do not remember who told me that it works, I have NOT tried it myself yet. I usually get copies made at staples for transfers.

I did buy the wide 2 1/2inch wide rolls of tape. It just bugged me having the tape two inches wide. I have also used regular shiny scotch tape like used for gift wrapping. I did this with some asian text and really liked the narrow little strip it made. I tried using contact paper and the type I had gave a kind of frostedn ot as clear transfer, I did not like this at all. I also read somewhere that beige masking tape can be used, and that even though it is not clear you can still see the image. I have not tried that yet.

Here is a link to a swap that was in the archive with several tutorial links to look at ... http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2372 Hope that helps....;)
