I'm in Kitchener Waterloo area.
I'm wondering if we have enough people to make a live trading group around here.
Or even in Hamilton. Toronto is only an hour. That works too.

Not Sal, but Toronto had a group that met at the Gladstone but I never went when I lived there so I don't know if it's still going. I also don't remember many of the details except that it was on a weeknight.

I think Jean is also close as well as Canuckesz (iATCs) and gggrdrules. They haven't checked in here but we could PM them.

I am so glad we are starting regional groups. They are so fun!! If we get enough people over the next two years to try these get togethers ... I might be talked into organizing a convention with guest famous artist to do workshops, with plenty of time spent in trading. I have been to one twice in Ohio...and they are the best weekends, with people coming from all over!! Great workshops, lots of new friends!!It's doable.

Ok, I've thought about it and I think I could make it. I just have to check where is the closest I could get by train (there was no stop in Hamilton on ViaRail's site.) Anytime in July works for me as well as the first 2 weeks of August.
Pippin
06-15-2008, 07:58 PM
Via rail would be to Toronto and then the GO train runs to both Burlington and Hamilton Miss KA! There are also GO buses from Hamilton to TO that run more often than the trains! I am sure one of us could pick you up from the GO station!
rkolig
06-16-2008, 08:09 AM
I could maybe do something. I have enough Via points to get a free train ticket. It would depend on which weekend tho. Would we include art play time too? I'd love to meet you guys.

P.S. if you are trying to get to Hamilton by VIA - both Oakville and Aldershot (Burlington) have VIA stops, Oakville is a large hub. From there you can take GO Transit into Hamilton. Either Oakville or Aldershot are much easier to navigate than Toronto and are usually less busy. Just my two cents :)

P.P.S. I found this somewhere online:
The Gladstone Hotel will now be hosting trading sessions the 3rd Wednesday of every month starting at 6:30 pm in the Melody Bar.
Artist Trading Cards are miniature works of art created on 6.4 x 8.9 cm cards (hockey card size). Bring your self-produced cards then trade them. No money is involved, and there is no cost to participate.
Hundreds of people from all over the world are trading ATCs. Don't miss out on this fun way to meet other artists and start your own unique art collection! For more information on ATC concept and to see some sample ATCs see the international trading card official website.
Does anyone know if these swaps still happen at the Gladstone in Toronto?

I went right to the Gladstone website and they still host them. OMG, I'm going to be in Toronto this Wed. I might be able to pull this off.

The ATC live trade in Toronto was a bust. I arranged to take the 10 pm train home and walked down to the Gladstone Hotel. Its about 6 km (4 miles) each way. This hotel was obviously a really lovely hotel in its day. Lots of stone arched balconies, heavy wood interior, high ceilings. Its in fairly good shape, but isn't up the old grandeur. Alot of the rooms have been redone by artists. The whole building sort of caters to the artist community. Rooms start at $200 a nite.
Anyway, had a nice dinner in the lounge where the group was to meet. It was Queer night too in the lounge too, so that was interesting. ;) Anyway, I sat there for over 2 hours and not one ATCer showed up. I couldn't even see ANYONE with a portfolio of cards or anything, not even the contact person. And I checked with the waitress and the manager too, so they both knew I was waiting for that. Anyway, they did provide me with the contact info of the person who runs the trades. I'll contact her and see what is up.
However, on the bright side. Apparently every Wednesday nite they have a Life Drawing class (with models) that you can join for $7 a night. If I'm in Toronto on Wednesday evenings (which sometimes I am), it would be worth the trip just for that. Just gotta drag my supplies along.
Anyway, like I said, I did get the contact info, so will email her and see what's up. It did strike me that it would be easy to arrange a meet for this group there. They have painting classes some nights and that life drawing class. I'll bet we could arrange all sorts of things. Maybe an option for another time anyway.
Amerasu
06-19-2008, 08:13 AM
That's too bad Mary! I've often thought of just driving out on a Wed night to see what's up. Maybe the next time you're in TO and plan to attend the life drawing class, I'll join you. $7 is a lot better than the $25 I pay for a 3 hour session at my local gallery!
rkolig
06-19-2008, 08:17 AM
I'll do that Sal.
Yeah, I thought it might be fun if we could get a couple of close by people over there. I know there are at least 2 members from Toronto, probably a lot more.
rkolig
06-23-2008, 11:09 AM
I've emailed a bit with the person that hosts these "do's" in Toronto. Apparently the group has floundered a bit and she's trying to get it active again. Interest from others (me) seems to be motivating her more. If we can get enough interest and it gets going again, we could add it to the calendar here, but I wouldn't do so until I know that there will be interest.
Is anyone here interested in attending this event next time I'm in Toronto on the night of a scheduled meet?
I'm crossing fingers that I'll be able to travel by the time this gets rolling. I'm still housebound for the time being...but oh, boy, I want to go!
Amerasu
06-23-2008, 04:14 PM

It wouldn't replace a big event, but could hold a few of us over. LOL

I used to live about a half block from the Gladdie- waaaay back before they started renovating that neighborhood.. They've hosted Karaoki/Life Drawing and Darts Tournies all on the same day... ATC trades are new, though...
Now it's alot of yuppie kids go there at nights-
it went from being a seedy-but cool unknown place to being this uber-cool place to be seen in a matter of months-
in fact, the Drake Hotel, a block 1/2 east of the gladstone- less than 10 years ago were well known to be flop-houses that alternated between being.... errrr- brothel-esque establishments- those places at any given time- and the cops were always raiding, at least at the drake!
in fact alot of drug-dealers and pimps used to live and work in both places...
which is why they both underwent renovation-
to clean up a badly scarred neighborhood!
and if you ever get a hankering for an excellent Souvlaki or a burger-
head to Nick's- aka Friendly's bar and grill-
if Nick's is still there????
a block east of the Drake- almost to Dovercourt on the noth side of Queen St.- the best souvlaki or burgrsyou could ever want and good beer on tap, too!

I'm going to offer up my cottage for a weekend of art.
Date: August 15 - 17. I'll go up the evening of Friday the 15th.
Any interest? Who all is close enough to come? The only expense will be you're getting here. OK, and food of course, but we'll bring it all. It'll be CHEAP!!
It would probably be best to come straight to Kingston and meet up with me and we can all go up together. Not absolutely necessary, but might be easiest for most. The cottage is 1 1/2 hours north of Kingston.
We have a huge wrap around deck that would be great for working on, plus we can make space available both upstairs and downstairs for creating.
What the cottage entails:
* Its a cottage (but it is new)
* Its lakefront, on a point, yet nestled in the trees
* mosquitos are pretty good on the deck except very early and late
* The lake is shallow, with a rock/soft bottom. Which means swimming its relatively clear as long as you don't upset the bottom too much. RELATIVELY clear. Its a natural lake.
* Functional bathroom with shower and toilet inside. Outhouse as backup.
* Shower water and all tap water is lake water. Its filtered, but I wouldn't drink it.
* Drinking water is from a natural spring OR bring your own. We keep several gallons there at all times but we can go get more easily.
* We have 2 swimming areas with a rock ledge and a natural place to put the canoe in. No sandy bottom. Tho there is a little sand in one area.
* Yes, we have a canoe.
* Dock isn't built yet (but may be by then)
* HUGE wrap around deck with a 6 seater table, 4 muskoka chairs, hammock, and a covered portion.
* We have a BBQ grill, humongeous 3 burner fish camp style outdoor stove, and fully functional kitchen
* The upstairs is one large room with (so far) only a double bed, so people have to be willing to sleep on cots and/or sleeping bags. I get the bed downstairs.
* No good shopping or anything, so its pretty much enjoy the solitude and company and create some art
Any takers?

Newly altered group shot. lol
My fault, I'm too shy :)
I had a great time though I didn't get as much art done as I would have liked. Dana is a VERY busy creator who peels off art like no one I've seen! The rest of us were a little slower, lol. I think Ang and I probably spent more time watching than painting at some points. :)

For sure i watched more than i created, i have these weird hang ups about arting around others, its a very solitary experience for me. I had a wonderful time and Sal don't forget to save me a seat at AFA we can sit there and look at each other. LMAO
Pippin i am loving those markers you gave me. Thank you!!! ALso i have your jam card. i got you one with a little kitty in it.
IceKat and Phrixy my fat mermaid is up ...i look at it every day she is SO SO SO pretty.
ANd my baby egg mermaid, my husband was like "WOW!" Now trust me when i say WOW is something something for him to say.
Phrixy (roar!)-(inside joke)
Dana I am loving your tarot cards. i am doing divination reading every night. love love them. You have the sweetest energy around you. And hummingbird energy at the same time.
Alex (sal's hubby) you were just to sweet, going for a choco run. It was the nicest time.

I'm glad you like the gifties so well, Ang. It makes me happy to know the mermaid has a loving home.
I'm not really used to doing this sort of art around others, except Phrixy, though at my amusement park job we had to cut out wooden names in front of the guests. Maybe that helps a bit. I'm so happy when I look at the pieces in my autograph book, and all the trades. Pippin, I'll have to get you to doodle me something in there sometime too.
I'm definitely going to post an egg swap after the holidays. When I'm feeling a bit better, I'll finish my tutorial and post it on my blog, and send a copy to Art Trader in case they want to use it.

I'll definitely doodle something in your book Heather! Or let me know the dimensions and I can send you something to add in! I found it hard to create as I am used to a solitary process! although I could probably sew for hours and not worry!! It was very inspiring though.
Dana, your Tarot cards are the only ones I have ever felt comfortable with! I just have to learn the pics! Love them!

Hummingbird energy? Hehe, I guess that's a good way to describe me.
Sharon- I'm so excited that they "work" for you. If you ever have any questions about them, feel free to ask! I can tell you probably more than I even wrote in the book, hehe.
I was just going through the lovely cards that I traded for. All of you ladies are incredible artists and so very talented. Ang, I'm so happy to have your tarot wrap. You know what I'll be using it for!!! :)

Pippin, my book is about 5x6.5" if you'd rather do it that way. No probs. :) Hey, if you're interested in tagging along on a trip to the museum some time, let us know. Apparently my metropass gets a discount for 4 to various attractions in T-dot.
Dana, I've been thinking about the reading and how to break those chains. I think I'm going to start a journal with inspiring bits from the blogs I read, all the things I find empowering, and work on it until the only thing left is to bust loose! My lion self is restless, that's for sure.

I'd be interested. What would be the terms and conditions of participation? Would it be a one-time-only thing or a recurring venue?

Sorry we didn't get to meet up with you, rkolig. Ice works on Thursdays and doesn't get home until late. :S
I was out today and saw a flyer for CRAFTZILLA (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122240362578). Anyone interested in meeting up there? Maybe go to a coffee shop nearby afterwards? It's free admission :D

Did you all meet? I live in upstate NY and sometimes go to visit relatives in MI. I could probably only do a weekend visit sometime after AFA so if you do something I'd love to try to join you... museum, atc, whatever...i enjoy being with creative people.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to announce that I'm setting up a pagan/goddess/spirituality-centered arts and crafts bazaar, and want to invite you all to either participate or to come out and do a little shopping before Yule arrives. This event is one day only, on Saturday, November 6th, from about 10am-4pm.
Information is still at its infant stages, but here's the link for the site so far: GoddessCraft.ca (http://goddesscraft.ca/) and note that we'll be doing crafts this winter too for anyone who wants to come hang out and play with us.

Hey, it's way too quiet around here!
Anyone looking for a great priced place to vend? We have a craft show in June in Toronto, ON! Check out the thread (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18863) for more info.
Also looking for browsers to come cheer us on, so hope to see some of you this summer!

Since I don't see you on the list for Texas it'll be the only way I get to hang out with you again Ameraisu, Altermyworld, rkolig, pippin, and shore art... and I did have fun meeting you-all in Rochester. Do you have a date planned?

If anyone wants to come to Stratford I could host in my yard! House is too darn small and no room for sleepovers but I could try and score some cheap theatre tickets.

I'm organizing an art/craft bazaar fundraiser on Sat Sept 24th from about 11am-4pm, in Toronto at St Clair W and Bathurst. Tables are really reasonable, and I'd love to see anyone who wants to participate! The theme is pagan/spirituality based. The date coincides with the St Clair Art Walk, so we're expecting plenty of shoppers!
