Rolo-Reunion

Welcome to our continuing rolo trading site. We are now into Rolo-Reunion. New members, please ask to sign in.

This will be an ongoing swap. I will serve as the monitor of this thread, posting updates as needed, making corrections and answering any questions, etc., but trading will initiated by you with the other participants who have signed up. Please use your personal messaging system to work out your trade requests.

Since this thread will be ongoing you can sign up or drop out when you wish, trade when ever and with whom ever you want at any time.

There will be some basic guidelines to follow:

1. The rolodex card size is 3 x 5 (if someone has the smaller size that's ok too, but please let us know before you buy anything).

2. You will set up your own trades via personal messaging or email.

3. The format for the address rolodex card should be uniform:

user name on top and first
real name
address
telephone and/or email are optional

4. Artists can list a couple of topics/themes they might like have on their card but
always remember this can be artist choice. Please discuss this with your trading
partner BEFORE the actual trade.

5. Please make the back of the rolo card look nice as well so if there is an address
change the new address can go right on the back and still look artsy.

NOTE: When making rolodex cards, if the person has a "c" behind their name it means they have a circular rolodex base and the art on the back should go upside down (holes at the top) and if the person has an "f" behind their name it means they have a flat rolodex base and the art should go in the same direction on the back as on the front (holes as the bottom).

Well, as much as I've enjoyed making rolos, I'm going to self suspend for awhile. I need to do a few chunky pages and when those are done, I'll be ready to trade

Well, I have the circular kind and it makes a really cool-looking display statement but it does take up a lot of room! Maybe flat rolo owners can weigh in on the virtues of the flat holder!

The flat is easier to store because most are covered boxes, and it is what I have (by necessity). But the circular would be so cool since you can spin it and see the wonderful art on both sides of your card.

Hmm, that's a good question. I have the uncovered flat one and I really like it because it doesn't take up much space and you can see the rolos. You may be able to fit more on the circular one though.

I think I remember what they look like when I worked in an office - others had them with a smokey plastic top, and as you flip through them, you're really only seeing the front of the card? And if you can see the back of the card, isn't it upside-down as well? The backs are actually set up so you turn the card around and use the other side if need be. So with a Flat Rolo both sides have the holes on the bottom. On a couple of mine I like the side without the address so much I'm thinking of just keeping it in front and keeping the address on a blank card. I really wish I had room to display a nice circular rolo full of beautiful art ....:yes:

Jazzie, the rule about having the address on the front with a flat rolo is for this reason...if you have to keep taking the rolo OUT of the holder to look at the address on the back, you will soon ruin the holes at the bottom. When you have a circular rolo, and you give it a spin, the back part of the card shows upside down. Hope this clarifies a little for you. Everyone should be updated now. I am slow on the rolo path as we have embarked on a backyard re modle. Hubby and I have both just retired YIPPEE. Hubby in October and I at the end of April. Amy...I wish that worked. My daughter doesn't stay still or here long enough for me to make her clean. She can also out run me. My sons who both love to clean and organize live out of state, darn it! Oh well....I do have a wonderful boyfriend, ummm!!!

THEY DO NOTHING .... No thats not fair, they know how to PARTY & ENTERTAIN themselves and my eldest daughter works hard with a saturday job at the library 9 till 5 and works 2 hours a day after school cleaning. She keeps every penny to herself and enables her to have a great social night life and nice holidays :)

She is off to uni in september and as such moving away from home, leaving me with 2 other teens who dont lift a finger :realmad:

APAPRENTLY its the way ALL teens are these days (or so they tell me ) :confused: hmmmm.

Anyway ... back to rolos, ive made a few and need to upload them to see if anyone wants one.

Here is my altered rolodex Dana. Silly me bought an old small rolodex from ebay but I can't find the darn thing!! I also made my own alphabet cards. This is an older picture..its pretty full now and I need to alter another holder and move half the cards.

Shirl...You're such a crafty gal!! Love that holder! I grew out of the cigar box I was using and have moved to a cool tin my sister gave me. Perhaps I'll get a real holder someday.

I can't believe that teens over in the UK are lazy too!! I guess that makes me feel better. I have struggled with the way they do a job, when they finally do something. I like things done well and it irritates me when they do it half-arsed. I've heard we're not supposed to criticize the work but be glad they did it. What is that teaching them...? :confused: I hope I get in a good nursing home!!

I finally found a tray/box thing I like and got bamboo knitting needles to use as bars in the holder, but haven't decided how to paint it yet...someday I will finish it....

I am up for the rolo challenge - I will get a couple going. The up for grabs thing seems to work best for me trading wise...there are still a couple availables in my gallery. :)

For the challenge, I would suggest "all purpose" rolos. ie: ones that could be finished as letters, addresses, or plain (left with a space to add someone's address at a later time). Let your imagination run wild!

I saw the post on looking for new rolo people for this weekend, so I am going to try to make a rolo this weekend. I have actually started one. I figure I can actually start making them, then I will keep doing more.

Then I bought a circular rolodex when I went to the thrift store on the way to taking Adriayna to the airport, so I am all set.
