Title Drag (Hearts)
Description needlework on non-fraying aida cloth.

lots to explain: drag queen on one side, drag king on the other. the characters in a deck of cards are always holding something, so this queen holds a pink triangle (being a symbol of queer oppression and reclaimed for pride)--which is pretty much the only variation from the usual playing card color scheme, intentionally--and the king holds a phallus (the phallus being a symbol of power and masculinity). Both hearts are damaged, one missing a piece and one having cracks. The frame around them is incomplete and the images extend a little beyond the frame because they can't be fit into a box (get it? ). The grey in the middle is supposed to be each of their seats--I wanted more of their bodies/dress to show than what shows on the usual playing card king and queen, so it would be clear that one is wearing a skirt and one is wearing pants, but it still isn't extremely clear. But then again I've been looking at it for too long.

Thanks! I hadn't heard of the non-fraying kind either, but I found one package of it at a thrift store. It has some kind of thin glue across the back, and you have to poke through the holes a little harder with the needle. But it seems to work well; I wish I could find more of it!
