| Description |
This weird looking parrot is very primitive, comparatively speaking. It lives only in Madagascar where it forms two species - the greater and the lesser. Occupying most habitat types, it dines on seeds and berries, shoots and leaves. In breeding season the female moults out her head feathers, leaving her bald. This does not seem to have an adverse reaction with attracting males, however, and she often has two or three in attendants, all possible fathers of her chicks and therefore all with a vested interest in looking after her.
