    Our 3rd Zentangle-a-thon . . . July 10, 11 & 12 2009

Welcome to our 3rd ATC Zentangle-a-thon . . . . It is open to everyone . . . ., so just jump in. No signing up or anything like that. Just play.

We start 5 p.m. Friday 10th of July 2009 (where ever you are on this planet when it is 5 p.m. Friday)

We stop 11:59 p.m. Sunday 12th of July 2009 (where ever you are in the world when it is 11:59 p.m. Sunday)

This time there will be a couple of OPTIONAL challenges, just for a little bit of change.

Saturday: Inchy Zentangles (groupings of 6) and/or Twinchy Zentangles (groupings of 4).

Sunday: watercolored background paper. No rules about the watercolor, but hopefully your Zentangle will be visible.

Zentangles are basically repetitive line drawn shapes/designs/abstracts, created in a concise flowing manner. It is drawing done by creating a connection between your hand holding the pen and your eye looking at the paper. Try to leave your brain/thoughts out of it as much as possible. Afterall the word is ZEN. Just allow it to happen, do not force it. It is a lot of fun!! You are free to do your version of a Zentangle . . . . just create and have fun, do good work, and create at a peaceful pace. Here is a website www.zentangle.com.

No collage, no stamping, no embellishments.

Please post pics in this thread as you do your Zentangles. It is nice to see others zentangles so we can all enjoy the wonderful art . . . so we can be inspired by your work . . . and ultimately so we can all trade with each other.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone does. And do not be shy, ask each other to trade. That is the whole point. Trade, TRADE, T R A D E. Well maybe not the whole point, but.....

Gina-B and other first timers: Everyone tends to agree it is ok to prep the backings ahead of time. But, yes, drawing Zentangles begins on Friday evening at 5pm your time. You stop drawing at one minute before midnight Sunday your time. Many upload on Monday or after midnight. But you retire your pens at midnight. Some people only have time on one day, some are at it all weekend. Some people do 3 cards all weekend, some do a whole lot more. It is what it is and you do what you want to do. No rules about that part.

The challenges sound interesting. I haven't done inchies or twinchies, so that is a challenge for me.

Can't wait for the fun to begin!

    I'll group for inchies
(best to say so now, as you'll all be behind me time-wise!)

I like the twinchies and inches challenge and will be doing them. Also the water color backgrounds. Maybe even together!

for the watercoloured backgrounds - is it all right to use water colour pencils as I don't have any watercolour paints?

Excuse me I'm new to inchies and twinchies. What does "Group with me" mean?

POINT TO ALL PLAYERS: I tried doing a zentangle inchy last night. Would highly recommend gridding them off on a piece of paper but not cutting them to inch size until after you do all 6 of the set. It is way hard to do small lines like this while holding just one squar inch in your hand

It is hard being the host of the ZAT and having to watch everyone get up and going, posting away, while I sit here counting down. California is one of the last places to start. Hawaii is the only later one I am thinking.

Yes, indeed...I sympathize with you, CC!

I'll be playing...no inchies or twinchies, probably...but maybe I'll do some watercolor backgrounds.
