    OFFICIAL Learn-a-Thon (LAT) Thread, January 14-16, 2011

It's time for the Learn-a-Thon, January 14-16, 2011. Have a technique you've been meaning to learn or practice? A drawing book you want to work with? This is the time for it! We will all be working on our own learning projects, and relying on each other for support and chatter! And we can share tips and learn from each other, as we work, too. Please feel free to post images of your work. We'll start at 12pm (your time) Friday, January 14th, and work through the weekend until midnight Sunday, January, 16th (your time).

I'll be out of town most of the weekend, but will try to work on some new things and check out what everyone else is doing.

I think I'll try to work on some one stroke painting. I really need to learn it since I have purchased several books, cd's, brushes paints etc and have only played with it a couple times. The problem is that my sweet husband hasn't been home in a week and half, so I want to spend my time with hime too. It figures he comes home Thursday night and goes back to work Monday or Tuesday.

I only played with beeswax once during a CAT, and I wasn't real happy with my results. Maybe I should try it again too.

For those of you thinking of trying beeswax, there is a natural color which gives a slightly yellow cast to your art. It looks great on vintage style, but may not be the look you want for other styles. I know there is a whiter beeswax. I haven't tried it yet because I bought a huge slab of the natural (with a 50% off coupon at Michael's) that I haven't made much a dent in to date. So if you know another local crafter who wants to try that technique, you might want to each get a different type and then divy them in half and share.

I'll be here... there are some benefits of being unemployed!

I plan to work on the color wheel section of Collage Lab. And whatever else strikes my fancy!

P.S. I love the natural yellow beeswax. It can darken and "age" your collage, as GoldenWolf mentioned, and I love that effect. It's the only one I use, although I have the white beeswax on my wish list. I've only seen it in the pound block which is A LOT!

I am so glad that there will be a group of us trying beeswax - we can all commiserate over our failures and share the joy of our successes. it's like going to the gym - always better with a friend

What perfect timing! I was planning on working on either drawing with charcoal or packing tape transfers this weekend. I'll pop in and keep y'all posted.
