Linda those are really cool! They have a kind of hand forged look that is very suitable for steampunk

Welcome ArtDuJunque. I will add you, and check to see that I have everyone else on the list. I think I missed a couple of people when I was busy.

My company is here for two more days, then hopefully Matt will be home for a couple days. He had to work through his days off again this week. I am planning to do some drawing today.

Linda, where do you get metal mending tape from? I agree, I think your cogs/wheels look great!

Has anyone tried taking apart old watches to use the cogs and faces in their art? If so, any tips or tricks? I'm thinking of picking up a lot on Ebay to disassemble.

Oh yes Deb I tried with not much of a success. The screws are that tiny that I can
not find a tool small enough to unscrew most part.

Do the watches have to be the old wind up kind? It would be nice, to get more gears.

I have some gears from the scrapbook store (7 Gypsies I think) but I have not used them yet, I may keep most of them for something I make for myself.

Ah...I think I'll pick up a set of watchmakers tools then if I can find them cheap. Good thought, Marilou.

I have taken apart many watches, the older swiss movent watches are best. Always look for wind up style watches, the ones with batteries dont have as many goodies to work with. Wind up alarm clocks will give you better and bigger gears/cogs. Cuckoo clocks have LOTS of cool parts.

That's good to know ArtDuJunque. I have tried to take some watches apart without luck. Maybe older watches would be a better way to go. I'll have to do some garage sales before I order them online.

Hey y'all! Linda just reminded me about the Flickr set I made of my Steampunk pin-up swap earlier this year. There's some really awesome examples in here by several different artists.

I'm also gonna look around my gallery and see what other stuff I can find for show n tell.

Tanya thank you so much. I have sent out a lot of PM's and still have more to invite people. I am sorry if I accidently send invites twice or to people who have already joined. Just takes a lot longer to keep checking.

She should make a big set since most of would love to have one! LOL

Nice to see you all here, please try to drop in often. You don't have to actually be making steampunk art to be here. It would even be cool if some of you wanted to discuss and or share Movies, books or other artist websites with steampunk stuff.

I sat down today and did a couple sketches in my sketch book that I will use to make some atcs to trade. I will reuse the sketches but each atc will be made by hand.
