essentially, its a mushy gel about 1/2" thick, solid but squishy, you roll paint onto it and it is easy to press things into it like texture plates, stamps, texture tools and then you press paper on top and make monoprints. I got some printing inks and used them on glass...but with the gelli plate, you can get a much nicer texture from some things that don't work on the hard glass. It is pricey...about $20 for the smaller one (5x5 or maybe 6x6) and $30 for the larger. You can use acrylic paints too. So my bargain paints...plus more bargain paints led to the splurge on the gelli plate. There are tutorials online.
I'll teach anybody anything I know, I just don't want to work.

If no one else claims them...I'd like the coffeepots

    WC paper:
if you really want it not to warp, you need to use 300 lb paper, but it is pretty pricy if you are only doing a few.
I use 140 lb and put it under a good heavy book after it is dry-that usually flattens it pretty well

Oooo guys cool stuff. And yes thanks for the technique explanation on the desert background cards... that is so cool, will have to try it. And yes, i did draw the desert creatures on another piece of paper then color and glue onto the background. I don't think I would have been able to draw directly onto the background and the cactus and actually cover them. seemed to be the best way to handle that

We are packed and will leave Italy tomorrow by car. It wil take us 2 days to be home, without road troubles, strikes or accidents. Fingers crossed, and then I will be ready for art.

    HINTS:

If using WC paper, sometimes it will warp from moisture and glue by the time the ATC is done. I flatten out a warped card by placing it inside a plastic baggie or page protector, and then puttin it under a stack of heavy books for a day. I use the plastic so that I do not damage the books from paint, moisture, or glue.

I'd not recommend putting watercolors "directly" onto anything but WC papers. If you want to add a watercolor object to another type of background paper, you can paint the object onto WC paper, cut it out, and then glue it onto the background paper.

Mace you gave us the SD address in Rapid City so thats where it went. Thank you on the turtle comments. I hope I didn't make them too big.

Art101 thank you for the tips on watercolors. I know using other papers can be iffy, papers can tear or shred with the water. And you really don't want to ruin a card someone else has started
