    AFA IN NEW ZEALAND 2014

    DOWNUNDER MEET
    Wednesday 1st - Friday 3rd October 2014
Kapiti Coast, North Island, New Zealand

After the highly successful Downunder Meet we held in Melbourne July 2013 those attending thought the next Meet should be in New Zealand. This has been set down for the first week in October 2014 - I know a long way off at present - but that date will come around very quickly.

There are more and more of us AFA'ers in Australia and New Zealand and growing.

The event hosts will be Cathy1, Mouseit, Donnacr and Cee-Emm and if judging by the last Meet, we are in for some fun.

The event will be held in the Kapiti Region, about 1 hour north of the Wellington International airport (we can pick you up), and we are planning lots of wonderful things to do. The Kapiti Region is well known for its sun and its proximity to local attractions. Accommodation costs are also more reasonable than in Wellington and depending on numbers we can probably get a good discount.

We are looking for an indication of interest only at this stage - so post to this thread and I will compile a list of those interested.

We have some fabulous topics already - Kimono and Iris Folding, Binding Techniques, Altered books tutorial and more. Of course we will be adding to this list so if you have something you have always wanted to learn or have a talent you would like to share, we would love to hear from you.

So who is joining me, Mouseit, Cee-emm and Donnacr in a glass of champagne (or Baileys) to kick off the event????

I will keep the list beow update: We will have some supporters following us from afar and we hope to update you as to happenings during our time together. Others will be attending the event and I will note that on the list as well.

Absolutely Jonquil - it wouldn't be the same without you. Hope you are bringing your hubby - plenty of good fishing spots not far from where I live.

ME! ME! ME! Less than 11 months to go!!! I will probably bring hubby and daughter along for the ride, since they were a bit miffed to miss the trip to Melbourne

Might even try talking hubby into showing us girls a few of his magic tricks.

Very interested, I don't know anyone else in real life who makes ATC's. Reality of making it very minor due to large, young family.

Gnome, if you start organising baby sitters now, I'm sure you can make it over!

And Cathy, we have a couple of magic bunnies, so no need to go and catch any (unless you want to make rabbit casserole for everyone...) Our bunnies have been to Taupo with us once or twice and are very well behaved in motel rooms I'll talk to His Nibs about a show at the shindig - we are currently sitting at 19 performances between now and Christmas so he's pretty busy at the moment, but I'll promise him Bailey's and chocolate! Great to hear from everyone, Gnome, perhaps you need a holiday away from your large young family - we would look after you.
D-Dazzled - it will be great to catch up with you and your lovely family again and Anncam, a motor home and a dog will work in well. There is a lovely spot down by the beach that takes campers or you could park up at the caravan park or probably you could freedom camp by the river. Yipee sounds like we are going to have fun.

Anita, we would love you to come and meet all of us. And at the same time you could see our lovely country and even visit where they made the Lord of the Rings Movies, the hot pools in Rotorua, the wineries and restaurants in Hawkes Bay, whale watching on the west coast of the south island, the glaciers and mountains and scenery of the south island, and art with us all LOL. You may need to come for a month or more to fit just some of it in.

I will add you to the list.

    I am a definitely maybe!
My husband and I spent last weekend in an ex-psychiatric hospital-turned-lodge that I thought would make an amazing location for an art gathering. But I'm probably the only South Islander here - and it is in Hokitika - which is a 3-4 hour drive from the nearest international airport (Christchurch).

I love Kapiti Coast, and October is a reasonable time of year for me, so I will definitely pencil this one into my calendar.

Oh, and I really need to go to Kapiti Island - last time we tried it was cancelled that morning due to rough seas. Which was probably good because I also had a migraine. You can see some of New Zealand's iconic birds - the kaka and the weka - in the wild. And they probably have Takahe as well.

Read my books or follow my latest project:Animal-a-Day
    and play the game, "Zootrophy"
