Well, this was the best I could do with my ancient printer/scanner - the white edge is just there So... I made a true old-school zine (black & white) to go with

I got started on mine. I tried to get a preliminary copy to see how it would work out..but I have a cheapo printer..I couldn't get rid of the white margins either. I'm going to go over to OfficeMax to do my copies.
I'll post a pic when I'm satisfied with my zine.
Rosa I love your color version. Maybe you should try a copy shop too.

    Welcome, whisperingnan and TrinaLD!

So glad to see that people are sharing tips for their zines as well; it's a new project for some of us, so it's nice to learn how to make them better.

i finished my Zines. I've done a travel zine with postage stamps from swaps and travel memorabilia.
I went to the photoshop to make my copies since my printer wouldn't print to the edge. The color copiers won't print to the edge either so I got someone to help me. I made the copies onto 11x17 in paper and trimmed them to 8x11.5. The color is good without adjustments. It cost $5 for 6 copies. I made extra copies in case I messed up the folding.
They come out better if you make a fold then open the paper to make each other fold. Folding lengthwise then crosswise wasn't as successful.
Heres a pic of the folded zine and one of the original.

So I made my first zine, scanned it, saved it to my flash drive, took the flash drive to the Office Max store to be photocopied, requested it to bleed to the edges, and the guy says "our computers don't do that." Blah! So there's a white border all around it.

Like Rosa, I'm making a second one in just black and white that doesn't need to worry about a border.

Even I can print on my home printer and bleed to the edges. Either Office Max has stupid printers or the guy isn't the most bright. Blah again.

Anyway, these are really fun. Thanks to Meseket for hosting this swap.

Oh, and I checked at the USPS and I was told that if we fold them in half (hamburger bun style), it will take only one stamp in a half size envelope. I'll check a sample and see if that will work without damaging the booklet.

Cheryl, I love the use of the travel stuff. I may have to swipe that idea since I have a ton of stuff like that.

Hmm. Seems like I had a better OfficeMax experience. My copies were very good and trimming them wasn't difficult. Can you post a pic of yours Trina?

I mailed mine - I put and extra couple of cents on the envelope, but they're also only folded in half And, there are 6, not 3 ~ this way everyone who gets a white edge color zine, also gets a black & white

Cheryl, I'm finishing the cutting and folding tonight and will take a photo and post the original and the completed book.

I actually colored the edges and like that look so I might go with that.

I am considering the trimming part, but the guy didn't suggest that as an option.

    I'll post a photo tomorrow!

I left the white edges. I didn't mind them.

I mailed mine today. The copy paper seemed too flimsy to just send in an evelope so I sandwiched mine between 2 sheets of cardstock. They gotta go a long way. Godspeed mini Zines!

I made color copies yesterday, and also left the white trim. Had to adjust the color and brightness a bunch. Thankfully the Office Depot lady didn't charge me for all the copies I had messed up. I will probably also mail them folded so they fit in a business size envie.

I finished my black and white one as well and plan to forward that as well. I've got two more sectioned out, but they'll have to wait. I'm in countdown mode right now as I leave in less than two weeks for my month long arts immersion program. I can't wait. I'll be taking the train down (ah, idea for another mini zine perhaps).

Cindylou, so glad to see you join here.
