So.. about tip-ins being totally flat. I like flat. That's how I work. Just curious.. does that mean no pockets, gate folds, flaps too? I ask only because I have a new scoring board.

That's a good question and I think it's going to be a matter of personal preference with the people you trade. Those sorts of things would be fine in the books I have to mount my tip-ins so I would definitely love to trade with you! This is what my default is: I try to communicate clearly in the thread and in the description part of my gallery post the size of my art and any unique characteristics. I might also include it in my messages as I'm negotiating the trade to make 100% sure people are OK with whatever is different or unique about my art. (It can be an issue with some of my digital art.) I really hate it when creative techniques are inhibited as a result of an arbitrary rule and this is a marathon - not a swap so I think we should be free to let the muse loose. The flat "rule" is more to communicate what most people are looking for so that it can be easily pasted into any type of journal. As we have seen already there are some really neat alternative ways to display art so a journal is not the only way to go.

Bottom line is I say "GO FOR IT!"

RhonaPaints, I say go for it - if you have a new tool you want to try, what better time to do it!

I wont mind chunky stuff or non flat stuff, so feel free to be creative. I often use junk journals so chunking it up wont matter. I was even in a swap for Wreck this composition book so I know I can add non flat things to that journal.

Do you often tape in your tip ins? That is what I imagine. So I gather I would not want to create too much art in that left area. Or at least not important art.

JavaZarf - I feel you pain. Lately the "tyranny of the urgent" has been interfering when I want to participate in whatever marathon is happening. Fingers crossed this time.

CastleQueen - great question! My books are such that I will be putting adhesive on the back of the tip-ins. Hopefully others will weigh in and let us know what they are doing.

I am almost up to date on my swaps, so I should be able to do a bit. I've never done these, or indeed 'tipped in' anything before, so I'll just see how it goes. In fact I've only done one athon before. I learned not to make too much, because I have a binder that's half filled with Valentine stuff that's not really suitable for much else

I've never done a tip-in or this size before, but hope I can at least do a few. I'm not caught up on my swaps and have probably over-committed but there are so many good swaps right now, it's hard to resist signing up...I haven't done any prep for this either, so will be 'winging' it!

Not sure yet. These are about postcard size, so I might treat them like these and put them in a postcard collector album... Or put them into a frame as "stand-alone"-art...

Well, I've cut some paper to size and done a couple of backgrounds.. I've no idea what people are looking for, but I'll give it a go.
