Decals_gal is Kimmie now, that's why.
Thanks for contacting me....I'm going to lurk for now and see what others do....I thought it would be easy to start or complete cards HD/hp, but I'm not sure anymore. Yes, decals_gal is now Kimmie - me!
I'm having trouble finishing my own cards...![]()
Ok, for now I'll be on the HD/hp list, please.![]()
Mixed media, please!
What all can I do to bring life to this thread, everyone?
Any suggestions or ideas are more than welcome!
Do I need to make a bunch of starters? Or should we have a little art-marathon where we focus on making starter Buddy Cards?
I personally am looking at the art-marathon as the idea would be to make only starter cards during the a-thon, then when it is over come here to the thread and post what we have for everyone to see and claim. It might bring in new players as well.![]()
Sounds like a good idea to me!

I'm always afraid that I'll ruin someone else's starter card....does this fear go away with practice? when you get more confidence? I always feel like whatever I add to a card makes it "not look right" or ruins it...lol...
Also, samples of "starter cards" for hd/hp would be helpful, maybe?
I just need to learn how to do this! Sounds like such fun!![]()
Oh, and the idea of a starter Buddy card marathon sounds interesting...it would have to run quite a time spell....how would it be handled?? wouldn't we need the starter cards before the actual marathon to show the finished card from both buddies? (I'm so dumb about these things!! lol)
duh...ignore my crazy self....I just re-read your post to see what we'd do! I need a nap!
You won't have any problem at all with this, Kimmie - I have admired your art since I joined AFA! As for "ruining" someone else's starters, we all do starters expecting them to be finished, and you have to just "let go" of your card and maybe your preconceived idea of what it should be. And you are right - it really is fun! Marie and I have done so many together, it has just happened that way - sometimes she has started a set that I finish and sometimes I start and she finishes. Sometimes we are so surprised at what the end product turns out to be, but I for one, have never been disappointed, even with other artists that I have played with. It is such a fun surprise, you will love it! And yes, your confidence does build as you go.

That's 1 vote for the marathon!
Practice + Encouragement should do the trick! You'll be responsible for the practice, and the Encouragement just leave it to us! You'll get plenty of that here from everyone.
And I think...it might just help if you took on a few different types of Buddy Cards to practice with various types. Also if you are afraid to finish then don't forget someone out there might be afraid to start a set!So why not start and gain encouragement and practice that way as well?
So you would like examples? I think I can put together something. Let me see when we can do the a-thon and plan in advance for some.
Well, I figured they would be quicker to make as they are starters...instead of like other a-thons where you have to complete what you make so I don't think we'd need that much time. And no we would create the starter sets during the a-thon... the idea is to pass the muse around, get everyone hyped about making starter sets. This way we can come back to this thread and start posting them and claiming them for trades. My way of attempting to bring life here lol. And no, not dumb, just haven't been exposed to such things - two totally different topics.
I literally NEED one but cannot take as I have a bunch of art to complete as payments
I agree there! The whole point is to see "how would someone else finish this?" I am trying to do something with the cards I post here: instead of 2, I make 3. I mail 2 but keep the third for myself and finish it on my own. Then when I get 1 card returned I have 2 cards to put in my collection next to each other - just to see how 1 starter can be completed in 2 ways.
1) Added another section to the second post: now you'll see:
- Completed Example
- Available Cards
- Official Players
2)Looks like the Buddy Card A-Thon is getting good votes so I am already working on writing it up. Currently, the details I have are as follows... feel free to give suggestions (edits, add ons, changes etc).
- Estimated run time: 1 week (can change it to 2 weeks upon request)
- Estimate of run date: August 21 to August 28 OR August 7 to August 14
- Focus/Goal: have everyone create as many "starter sets" as they can during the a-thon
- When completed we just migrate back to this thread and post away at all the available cards we have made. From there just take it off! Start trading like crazy and finishing cards like crazy!
- This does not mean more starters cannot be started after the a-thon... PLEASE make more starters.
I have some ideas put together for building "example" starter sets... so if anyone wants to help please send/post pictures of starters you have done in the past.
Posting as a lurker, so that I can keep enjoy watching the progression of artwork on the cards.![]()
I saw you in my dreams ~ We were walking hand in hand
Buddy Card-a-thon has been sent over to the official calendar for approval!
Once it is approved I'll post the thread.
⌚ Run Time: August 17th to August 24th ⌚
During this time, please migrate there to create Starter Sets. Once the week is over, on the 25th we'll migrate back here.
***Normal trades are still carried out here.
I'll post a link to the thread when I get an approval. Can't wait to see what you guys make!
