Miss M - would love to work on the Geisha set please!

    I made these this weekend:
<- Framed Window Set sent to BexMadeMe
<- Tree Portrait Set Sent to NatashaMay

Both sets can be completed in color or left to monochrome or even B&W. You can add (please do) elements or remove them (hide under paint or other thicker mediums).

I also made a video for each to show how I started from a blank and finished one card then moved on over to making the other 2 look the same as the first. Trying to figure out how to edit the videos before posting so I'll share when I can figure that out.

Paradox, the geisha will be sent your way!

Lovely sets you've added! I have few questions....

Love the framed window. What would you expect two other other artists to add? I'm curious, as there isn't a lot of room left...the 2nd artist could fill in the view in the window, but what would a third add, as the whole card has been filled in?

And just confirming the tree and grass in the 2nd set are intentionally left white, yes?

If you are expecting other artists to color in your cards (i.e. like a coloring book), that's kind of new for this thread. I don't know that expectation actually allows someone to artistically add to the card? (if that's what you were intending) This isn't explicitly in the rules, but in past no one has altered someone else's image added to the card, i.e. they don't change the line work, the colors used or the image itself.

    What does everyone else think?

(aside: I think coloring book cards are a neat idea, and I think would definitely have demand on this site, but I'm wondering if it's outside the scope of this thread?)

Honestly I kept it them this simple just because I kept in mind "HP" meaning some sort of paint that can be used to go over the lines I have made. And no none of these were made with the intention of acting as a coloring book - that would mean these are just linearts which they are not.

I know I personally could alter these a lot with the supplies I have in the HD/HP department. You just really have to think about it with the space available. Each window, for example, can be it's own little work instead of showing a whole scene inside. And the brick pattern was added on as just an after thought so technically that can be removed to add something totally different (wood panels, siding, marble, etc).

I actually made this one a little tough to play with on purpose knowing that 2 others have yet to add work on them. >w<

If the set is too hard I can remove it from the thread but trust me I have already asked my own siblings to see if they can finish these and the feedback (examples) I got made me think if they as computer nerds can finish them then we as artists would have no problems at all.

White areas on the tree set is left blank in case someone wanted purple grass or a neon green sky... just examples lol! But yes - left blank so as not to restrict the other 2 players.

I hope that clears it up?

***PS - yes I agree coloring cards would be different from this thread which is why these are not made as just a coloring set!

I would probably continue with b&w theme because it wouldn't look like a cohesive piece to me, if the rest was in color. I personally wouldn't color someone else's addition to the card nor would I paint/draw over it. If the player intended for stuff to be added to their addition, I would expect it to be left blank. For example the Geisha set from MissM above missing a head. You can add a hat on already finished head or put something in a hand, if the composition allows it, but I would not paint over a dress for example to put a cat in her lap. That's just my take on it.

However, I did make a b&w turtle once and gave permission to other players to fill it with color, if they didn't want to continue the b&w theme. It turned out great in the end and the final artist colored my turtle but I felt bad about it afterwards because I felt like I didn't put enough effort in it and someone else had to finish my work, so I never did a b&w again.

ParadoxSketchbook, if you're ok with continuing with b&w theme, you can send me the tree set, if it hasn't been claimed yet.

Natasha - the tree set is available and no I do not have any preferences for any of my set to be in certain colors or even themes!

Bex - if you're up to dealing with the Framed Window Set then I can send that along?

OKay I am going to add to this conversation... I can see and agree with both sides.

I too was wondering how the window would work for three since the wall was sketched in as well. But I think it would be a fun Buddy set.
My inclination would be to color in the sketch not leave it as a line drawing. But it is a good idea to ask first (both artists if your third). I remember very early on doing a Sand dollar that I wanted white, and it colored pink. But On my Bottle of Boos cards my inspiration had ghosts inside the bottle so I left them uncolored and actually hope they are completed in some way.

Another thing to remember if Our new hostess Miss M and ParadoxSketchbook agree..
When we started the Hand Drawn RR group it was stated that you could do your drawing on a separate paper and carefully (leaving no white background) cut it and glue it onto a card. An example was when I added a Bee to a painted Flower set. I may have also done that on the cards where the woman was walking a dog in front of a door with steps. In both cases I cover some of the previous art work to complete the composition.

I'm not trying to limit anyone's creativity, just making sure expectations are up front and understood so no one is disappointed in the end.

Personally, I have a very similar opinion to NatashaMay: I would never alter the image another artist drew/painted on the card. I wouldn't colour it in, I wouldn't paint over it, I wouldn't change the line work, I wouldn't alter the shading. I think that would be be horribly rude of me to do so. That's my personal opinion and boundary, not a group rule. For me, there is a difference between altering the card and adding to a card, and I think it's more of a challenge to not alter the card, and that's what I aim to do.

Paradox, given that you've already stated that you don't mind if anyone alters your cards, then it wouldn't be a problem in this case.

Like I said, I don't want to limit anyone's creativity. I'm just highlighting that not everyone is okay with altering images on the cards, so PLEASE ensure the originating artist is okay with an alteration BEFORE it is done.

I worked on both those sets Linda, and I remember them. The Bee/Flower set started out with a colour wash background and it was almost impossible to add another layer/image to it without altering that background (LOL, took me a while to puzzle out what to do, so your bee was ingenious!). The woman/dog/door was because the 2nd artist didn't this leave any "whitespace", so you kinda didn't have a choice.

But in both those instances I do remember you posted your idea to add a collage element to the thread to make sure everyone was okay with it.

I also think this technique should only be done by the third artist since a bit of glue or strange paper may cause some mediums to react differently.
