Vintage children’s books – HD/HP & Collage ATCs - Due 5th October

Don’t you just love old children’s book illustrations? There are so many to choose from -and if you are a Baby Boomer (like me), they will bring back many lovely memories. I remember when we moved and my mother couldn’t afford wallpaper, she hand cut hundreds of individual images and pasted them on our bedroom wall. There is a long list to choose from, and I’m sure those you treasured in the US will be different from those I grew up with in the UK, which included Beatrix Potter; Enid Blyton (what a selection); Janet & John (learning to read books) – I believe these were based on the Alice & Jerry books in the US; then there are all the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm, and Hans Christian Anderson amongst others. Choose your favourite – tell us a story!

The cards -
-Each card must be ATC size, exactly 2.5" x 3.5" and on a sturdy base (cardstock, bristol, watercolor paper, chipboard), and sent in its own plastic sleeve.

- Send work into which you put time, imagination and care, and would be happy to receive! I will attempt to trade effort for effort and media for media.
- Each card must be original, no copies.
- Label all cards with at least your real name, AFA username, date, location and name of the swap. A host card is not required but will be a very treasured addition to my growing collection.

Postage/Mailing:
When taping the cards together, just a little washi tape works great to keep them in place while mailing (don’t use ordinary masking tape – it’s a nightmare and ruins the plastic sleeves). Please post in this thread when you are sending your cards out.

US Players: please send a well concealed $2 in with your cards.
Other International Players: Please send $2 in your envelope if you have them. Failing that PM me for paypal details.
Include a large address label with your address neatly printed. I will provide envelopes.
Please PM me for my address when you are ready to send your cards.

Make sure you allow your cards enough mailing time to get to me, late cards will be returned to the artist, unswapped, at their expense & risk getting a Neutral iTrader. Lack of communication and lack of ATCs will result in Neutral iTrader given. Please, please communicate.
Players - when you receive your cards for the swap, remember to leave iTrader for the Host (me) and Rep Points for the people you received cards from – It is always nice to tell the player which card you received too. This is optional, but a nice way to say thank you.

Please write your username and Swap Name on the back of your envelopes.
I will leave iTrader for each player as I receive their cards.
We love eye candy. So post photos of your cards to the thread for us all to admire.

I haven't started mine yet, but here's some inspiration:

https://www.pinterest.com/sondramar...age children's book illustrations&etslf=16683

Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker, how could I have forgotten those. I've a whole book full. Noddy - known as Oui Oui in France (pronounced wee wee) which British Kids find hilarious. The list goes on. I'll have to give it a lot of thought before I start, or I'll end up with a whole bunch of cards.

I had copy illustrations in mind, I hadn't thought about doing your own illustration. I think that would be OK as long as it was very obvious (ie from a bit of text) which book it was from. Also it must be in the original vintage style.

If in doubt post a picture so we can see your interpretation. I hope this helps.

I have lots of vintage scraps in this theme, so each participant will get a little extra in their returns. I have Beatrix Potter and Flower Fairies in abundance. Share the love eh!

Welcome fairydust and Londonont1, and also to our lurkers, I do hope they will join in.

I'm sorry I've not been on as regularly as I'd like but it's been a hectic week, family here, two parties. I'd forgotten how noisy the house is with three young granddaughters charging around, and I've got used to cooking for 2 rather than 7 - I'm exhausted. The family have now driven off to Spain for a week, so I might actually get back to some art. They are back again next Saturday for a couple more days before they drive back to the UK. Summers are wonderful, but busy here.

I would like to join. I better have your address again because I can't read what I wrote when I recorded your address previously. Here are my cards:

Blueberries for Sal by Robert McClosky
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McClosky
Saggy Baggy Elephant by Byron Jackson and Kathryn Jackson

Xela7072 your fabulous cards have arrived. Thank you so much for the extra one. I will treasure it, but they are all so lovely - I don't know which one to choose
