Envelope Security Liner Collage

For those who don’t know, security liner is the patterned inside side of many envelops you receive in the mail. Mostly on things like bills or medical reports that require an added level of privacy, or return envelopes hoping to have a check inside. I love doing collage with this stuff! Who’s with me on this? :) It comes in so many awesome patterns and shades…. not as many colors as I’d like… and it just arrives free in the mail. Security liner is the SILVER LINING of bills and solicitations. Try it once and you’ll be hooked!

For those of us who already love and hoard this stuff, its stash-clean-out time!! :jiggy:

For this swap we want to try to use only security liner as much as possible. The stamps and any preprinted words from envelopes are fine as well, and a few small bobs and bits from other sources or HD/DP additions are great too…. as accents. 10% or less is a great margin. Feel free to PM with any questions.

Please sign me up. I do have a question. If we collage a background with the security envelopes, and then create art on top of them, is that acceptable? thx

Sure thing, RaineyDay. I'll sign you up now. Doing the background with security liner is perfect, and what you collage on top of that background should be constructed from security liner as well, for the most part, as I've done in the examples above. :-) As long as 90% of whats visible on the card is security liner, postage stamps or words preprinted on the envelopes, the rest can be anything you like. If you look at the first card pictured here you can see that I did tint the security liner for her body parts with Prisma marker.... that's fine because its a small amount. I also added a postage stamp. That part of the 90% because postage stamps and preprinted words are included. Hope this helps! :-)

I've been watching for this swap, Marie - you can sign me up for the challenge, since the due date seems doable ("due-able"?) ha-ha. I have always admired your pictures made with these envie liners - wish I had started saving these envelopes sooner.

CiCi, glad to see you! I'll add you to the list! Once you start with these, you'll never want to 'recycle' one of those envelopes the old way again.
:-)

I'm going to have to lurk a bit until I find more variety of liners. I do lots of cards using the liners, but not the way you are expecting. I generally add color to most of them.

Welcome to the lurkers couch Annie! You're great at collage! And here, instead of adding colors/shapes with paints or markers, you add the them with collage of more security liner, postage stamps, and those preprinted-on-the-envelope words. I hope you join in!

Lurking.

I use envelope liners a lot, but mostly as background - never done (essentially) a whole card with them. Not sure I have enough variety in my stash. But I'll lurk and see, maybe play around a little...

Welcome GALZART, Betsyg and Mushu! So glad you're joining us! And welcome to the lurkers couch katelnorth! I hope you decide to join us!

OK, I had more time than I thought yesterday, and managed to play around a bit with some envelope liners (boy do I love being on summer holiday!). I think these will work ok, so count me in!

The seaweed in these is actually done with a green envelope liner, which someone sent me a small piece of - I'd love to get my hands on some more of that, but everything I see tends to be blue, or grey. That said, there are so many shades of blue and such a variety of patterns out there that it's still fairly impressive.

Those are AWESOME cards, katelnorth.
And such wonderful inspiration.
I use security lines a lot, but was having a problem figuring out how to do an entire card out of them, and your examples are perfect.
I am "starting" to get a feel for how this works.
Lurking for now.......

Katelnorth, those are awesome! Great set! I've admired your collages before. Even better in one of my favorite mediums-- aka security liner. I guess I'd better get you signed up. :-)
