Lucky Dip Open Media ATCs - Due April 20th 2018

Swap Due Date –20th April 2018
Signup/withdraw date – none, just communicate.
    Number of Cards - 3 for 3 or 6 for 6
    Number of participants - unlimited
Media – Open – but no photography, loose glitter or chunky embellishments please.
Lucky Dip – Open Media ATCs - Due 20th April 2018

Do you, like me, have tons of ‘bits and pieces’ you buy/keep/rescue/save just in case they come in handy for ATCs. I bet you do! I thought it would be fun to run a swap where you put, say 20, assorted bits and bobs in a bag or tin, shake them up, then blindly select one and create a card around it. I am talking embossed, diecut scraps, cut outs, postage stamps, trims etc, rather than the backing paper. The art will be in the selection of other colours, items, words and themes to go with your lucky dip item. If you want to really challenge yourself include some items that make you think ‘why on earth did I buy/keep this’. Please note on the back of your card which item you picked out as your starter.

    The cards
    -
    - Each card must be ATC size, exactly 2.5" x 3.5" and on a sturdy base (cardstock, Bristol board, watercolor paper, chipboard), and sent in its own plastic sleeve.
    - Send work into which you put time, imagination and care, and would be happy to receive! I will attempt to trade effort for effort.
    - Each card must be original, no copies.
    - Label all cards with at least your real name, AFA username, date, location and name of the swap. A host card is not required but will be a very treasured addition to my growing collection.

    Postage/Mailing:
When taping the cards together, just a little washi tape works great to keep them in place while mailing (don’t use ordinary masking tape – it’s a nightmare and ruins the plastic sleeves). Please post in this thread when you are sending your cards out.

US Players: please send a well concealed $2 for 3 cards or $3 for 6 in with your cards.
Other International Players: Please send $2 for 3 cards or $3 for 6 in your envelope if you have them. Failing that PM me for paypal details.
Include a large address label with your address neatly printed. I will provide envelopes.
Please PM me when you are ready to send your cards, though I have not moved if you already have my address.

Make sure you allow your cards enough mailing time to get to me, I live in France. Late cards will be returned to the artist, unswapped, at their expense. Lack of communication and lack of ATCs may result in a Neutral iTrader. Please, please communicate.
Players - when you receive your cards for the swap, remember to leave iTrader for the Host (me) and Rep Points (You Rock) for the people you received cards from.

Please write your username and Swap Name on the back of your envelopes.
I will leave iTrader for each player as I receive their cards.
We love eye candy. So post photos of your cards to the thread for us all to admire.

    Are you in?

I am lurking. Could you suggest more of a list of things to put in the can or bowl you dip from? Would it kind of be "trash" ideas like those Swap? Could it be things like fabric trims, fringe or embroidery floss, lace trim, rhinestones, star shaped sequins, aluminum can embossing, other suggestions? What about shapes or images cut from paint chips?

    Ok here's what I did

I have 2 boxes that I store odd bits in. Extra bits from traders, thing that don't fit in with my normal filing (and I use that term VERY loosely). Things like advertising, postcards, papers/bags, text. I pulled out a load, some i liked, some I didn't, add bits of trim, a few cut outs, scraps, images, bits for sticking on. I threw them all in a box. The first thing I drew out was this card I picked up in a museum.

I decided to use the La Mercerie strip (which is sewing shop) and found other bits I liked to make into a card.
    .

For the second one I drew out a piece of paper. It contained images 1" square. I cut out two and built my card round them

You can add whatever you like to your mix. It doesn't have to be trash. It's just a jumping off point to creating your card. I might find a really unusual background card for my next one, perhaps draw out 2 things. Go with the flow but nothing too heavy or chunky. The weight limit for letters is 20g (less than an ounce) here before I have to put 2 stamps on it.

All of the things you mentioned would be fine CiCi.

Thanks so much for that explanation! The cards look great! Give me a couple of weeks before I feel ready to commit.

I really like this fun idea. I need a bowl with 200 items in it. I need to lurk. What color is your lurking couch. I like green.

I want to lurk, but I like purple.
Can the couch be green and the lounge chair purple?

I have been pulling backgrounds that I started and adding things to them to finish them. I do like the idea of pulling out a background and finishing a card.

I made this one, I was experimenting with the pet food bag from my trash to treasure swap. I used my die cutting machine and some orange and black ink.

I am not sure if I will send this card, It just got me started today.

Like your card CQ5 - great inspiration!

I think I'll be like Karch - put some bits and bobs in a bag, pull 1 or 2 and see what happens before signing up...

I wonder if maybe I should just clean out a box or something and use stuff I find in there? Or stuff LOST on my craft table. I have a whole mess on the right hand side.

I will think of something that comes to mind.

Thanks for having yourself up from my patchwork lurking couch CastleQueen5. I am intrigued by your card - which bit was the cat food bag? I can't tell.

Shuffle up folks, more people joining my lurking couch, which is luckily an extending one

Do you see what is intended to be rose on the top. It has an orange center it has a woven look to it. That is a rose I cut from a pet food bag. Does it look like a rose to the rest of you?

I'm going to lurk too. I'll be back if I get anything made, but I really like the idea of using your on hand "junk". Lord knows I have plenty to pick from.

CQ5 - I didn't see the rose, but I still love the composition and colours!
