House Shaped "Cabinet Card" Trade - up to 4" x 9" card OPEN MEDIA

This trade is for a larger format house shaped card that is mounted on a firm backing.

The size must be larger than 2.5"x3.5", and smaller than 4"x9", OR exactly 4"x9", which is the size of a business envelope. They could sit on a mantel, or lean against any firm object (or in a cabinet!). Cabinet Cards were 1870-1890 photographs that were thin and mounted on a hard card, displayed, or sent to friends and family. Why not join me in updating a wonderful, timeless tradition!

    Our cards can be:

    Open Media
    Altered Photos
    HD/HP
    Collage
    Sewn
    Holiday Themed
    OR NOT!

    RULES:

    * All trades are done as private trades - this is not a swap.
    * It will be a good idea to post the exact size when posting a card.
    * Communicate with your partner - open communication will keep this fun.
    * Allow 2 weeks to send, or as agreed upon.
    * You have an option of only trading with houses that appeal to you. Not all art works for every collector.
    * If you really want a house someone has made, you can ask them to hold it (trade pending), and try to
make a house they would like. No trade is required without both parties approval.

I am posting two examples, using old photos: these are each 4"x9"

Great idea! I have a friend coming down from Seattle tomorrow through Monday, but after that I'll get right to this.

great to hear from you ancient planter, cQ5, and nanvan! i hope it is clear that a size near or about 4"x9", which could be 4x8-1/2" would be fine.. i want to expand the idea to a cabinet card "village".. the different roof lines would lend themselves to a "village" look, don't you think? like, gothic, farmhouse, greenhouse, colonial.. any house at all, really!

I do agree, about the varying sizes making it more like a realistic village. I will be playing with this size soon. I might do one during the art a thon on the 20th.

This is a wonderful idea! What would the minimum size be?

there have been a few requests for varying sizes of cards - so to keep this out of the atc range: i am going to change the description to read: larger than 2.5"x3.5" and smaller than 4"x9" OR exactly 4"x9" which fits perfectly into a business envelope. also, trying to keep these large enough to sit on a shelf, and be seen.

it seems the envelope size might be a consideration on these!

i hope this will accomodate everyone who wants to join! and, since this is a trade, if two traders agree on a certain size, all is well!

thank you rosecake for this question

actually, the concept of a cabinet card, as opposed to an atc card, is that it needs to be sturdy enough to stand up, and not be hidden away in a folder or box.

not to mention, decorate our rooms!

yes! if you see a card you like, you can ask a player to hold it for you, until you post a trade.. it is okay to request a trade
on this thread, but the details (address), special request, should be messaged.

there is no obligation to trade .. but mark a card pending, or traded.

Morning everybody. Sorry I am late to the party. I had company, and went overboard in hostessing. I kind of wore myself out. I tried to look in yesterday on my phone and I had 11 pms, it just overwhelmed me. LOL So I just crashed early last night, unfortunately I woke up early too so still have a bit of the dragging feeling but after I catch up I will make some cabinet houses!

as i am finishing up my cards - i find that 3.5" wide allows for something to stick out on either side --
my original samples at 4"x9" are just a bit crowded in the business envelope on the width..

i might cut my length a bit shorter, as well, to allow for a moon, or chimney, or something on top -

Yes it is a good idea to test the houses to your envelopes before putting all the work into them. (of course I didn't check mine yet)

Vicki I am sorry I was in a hurry the other day and did not really get a good look at your houses. I adore the two Halloween houses! I thought about jumping in with Halloween too, But I know some people don't like it, so I found some awesome old stove images that spoke to my muse. Here is my first Cabinet House.

Sorry I am no longer able to scan my art. I need to buy a new printerscanner one of these days, because I hate all the fuss with the camera. Trying to get a good photo, straight, flash or not, then crop and resize so I can upload them to the site.
