Well, I'm finally back... for a little bit. My friend left on Monday but I took my laptop in to get fixed -- did you know there's a recall on MacBooks? Apple forgot to inform me somehow All this time I thought lack of strength in my fingers was the problem with the keyboard, but it's a faulty part that Apple knew about. So anyway, I'm on Alan's computer (which is pretty old and slow) and was able to check in.

Such great stuff already posted, and so sad that I missed out on Vicki's Halloween ones and Linda's beautiful Vintage Kitchen! So we don't have to stick with a cabinet card image being on these, right? I've got one foundation built, but that's about it for now. Will get to fixing it up, decorating, and moving in the inhabitants ASAP.

When we used to make similar houses in another group I was in, we used mat board to make them extra strong and able to stand up easily. Made it a little heavier to mail, but it was solid. Too bad I got rid of most of my mat board when we moved.

Vicki can I get your Mermaid House?

Colleen, They do not need to have a cabinet card photo, if they did most of us couldn't play. LOL We are just using the style for our houses to be able to display on a shelf/cabinet.

As for mat board that would be great, But I tend to save heavy non curigated cardboard from packaging so that is what I'm using. Cereal box probably would be a little weak for some of the more delicate areas of a shaped house. The reason my 4th of July house was a little smaller was because the cardboard was shorter.

Glad to see you back, AP.
How are things going? Hopefully everything continues to improve!!!!

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday (only FOUR MORE MONTHS and counting), so I will be making more of these guys.
I wanted to start with an assortment -=- I have never made this size before. I rather like it!!!! More room to be creative!

So you got rid of your matboard?
Why is it, no matter what we throw out, that is what we need next?

I have one started with you in mind, I'll let you know when I get it done in case you are interested (NO PRESSURE)

Thanks Vicki, That is a lovely mermaid die, and it's wonderful the way you did the different colored coral and stuff, love it.
I am trying to pack and get ready for a town day tomorrow and my trip starts very early Friday. I want to get past the bay area before traffic get going. Without traffic or stops it's a 10 hour drive. sigh I will be coming home around Tuesday.

Everyone should take note that even though these are in standard envelopes, they most likely should be non machinable and maty be extra weight so it is best to check with the post office if uncertain. I will be doing just that with kitchen mailing tomorrow on the way to my doctors appointment.

absolutely - the law of the land is: if you finally throw something out, you will need it almost immediately!!

i have been using a thin kraft board that is not too thick to mail, but will not bend at all.. it took quite a few tries to get the right thickness of this.. 30pt / medium weight / brown kraft cardboard - on amazon.. i read all the reviews one afternoon, before working on this project, and whatever was said about this was spot on!!

so glad to have everyone on board here..

this sticks out further than i had planned, so i will mail this in a manila envelope.

Vicki Z - I wasn't claiming the bird watching house, as I don't have anything to trade and don't want to request a trade until I have made at least one house. Thanks for pointing out my mistake!

I'm still in the "thinking" stage, where I gather a few images and contemplate how I might put it together. Lots more thinking to do...

Yes, while I am a Birder, I didn't make the Bird Watching house. Wish I had (or rather, had traded for it!), but it is Marlies' work. Gives me ideas for future houses, however

My Macbook is still in having the keyboard fixed due to the recall, so I've bitten the bullet and gotten on Alan's old, and slow (like dial-up slow!) Mac. Got a couple of houses scanned, but one has already been requested - sight unseen - by Vicki in trade for her Web Climber. The Japanese Tea House is available.

Attachment 197261 - Japanese Tea House - 4" (roof) x 8.25" - Japanese card, Origami paper, die cut, Green Tea bottle label. - On Hold

Attachment 197262 - Grandpa Joe has Bats in his Belfry - for Vicki_Z - 4x8.25" - scrapbook paper, German Scrap, die cuts (window is from Vicki herself), photocopy of a Cabinet Card that I bought at an antique store.

    GORGEOUS CARD, mwilding.

Sorry about the extra postage, but sometimes mistakes are how we learn, particularly mistakes that cost money. :0(
