The glare is a reflection. This is unusually large, 9 x 12, they are usually 4 inches square, or maybe 5 x 7. The fairy is hard to find as well, usually they are old-fashioned romantic couples in fancy dress.

And I guess I may as well stop lurking and sign up! I am considering doing my portrayals of the Monarch in torn tissue paper (since I do have some orange tissue!)

    Welcome CiCiCreates.
    I signed you up.

Portrayals of Monarchs in torn tissue paper sounds gorgeous.
I am anxious to see how you create them.

Thanks for posting your vintage silhouette with the milkweed background.
I have never seen one of these, and it is very cool.
Now that I know what I am looking for, I started doing some research.
    It is most interesting.
    Thanks again.

Of course I will agree that it is interesting! Two small companies, Fisher and Flowercraft, started business around the same time in the early 1930s, one centered in central California and the other in Washington. They employed a handful of special artists, artist assistants, and field sales reps. All the employees would go together to gather the milkweed to create their products. They also gathered field grasses and tiny wildflowers to place in the backgrounds along with the milkweed fluff. These little flowers were called “pearly everlastings”. When I read this, I thought that sounded like such a fun job! Ok, enough, back to the butterflies!

I'm lurking! Maybe this will be the swap that draws me out of my long...long...break from ATCs. LOL... My yard is a registered Monarch Waystation (ie, it's full of native plants and milkweed). It's so exciting when we see the caterpillars utilizing our beautiful weeds

I've painted a set between hikes and shopping at Lake Tahoe, so sign me up! Will post photos later to make sure they're acceptable (I'm not sure if I've got "depth" down).

    Welcome Ancient Planter.
    I signed you up.
You seem to have "depth" in your other ATCs, I am certain these will be beautiful.
