I have been neglecting art and I will try to paint and tell war veteran stories tomorrow, but I couldn’t resist commenting on Ancient Planter’s teapot stories. I love tea and you probably know I love bats as well. When I was in Mongolia last year I picked up the most marvelous teapot with 3-D bats sculpted on the exterior. When I got home I researched and found one shouldn’t be brewing tea in pewter, which is what I think the teapot is made of, so now it is a nice decoration.

    Lovely art everybody!

Great cards everyone - so many ways to interpret poppies. The local poppies here are orange, as expected called California poppies.
I finished up 2 today, staying on theme:

Lorna - I grew up in California and always loved the orange California poppies. When I was in Cuzco, Peru a number of years ago the main piazza had orange poppies as the dominant plant in all of the flower beds.

I'm in a poppy sort of mood. In fact, I may do poppies all day - whatever the suggested tasks are for today. That is, I will do art until the genealogy stuff starts calling me today.

I did this last night, based on a photo our niece took. She's in Rome right now, a week there on her own after a week in London. Today her parents join her for another week of traveling northern Italy, then Caitlin flies home to San Fran. and her folks (Alan's brother & s-i-l) spend another few weeks in Tuscany taking cooking classes and drinking wine. Must be nice. Anyway, Caitlin took a lovely photo of the Colosseum a few days ago & posted to Instagram (the only way we find out anything about the nieces and nephew anymore!), so I painted it.

Also, I wanted to share "my" recipes for favorite summer drinks (after lemonade and Arnold Palmer's, that is). These are actually from the health food bar I went to as a child up to my 30s in Santa Barbara, Kaysers. They were doing juicing and health food drinks long before it was popular, beginning in the 1950s. These always meant "summer" to me, and I still try to make them, although I don't do them with fresh-squeezed OJ.

Kaysers Krush - orange sherbet (NOT the orange/vanilla blend) and fresh-squeezed orange juice - I use about 1 cup of OJ and however much sherbet I need. Add to a blender and mix it up just like a milkshake. It tastes like summer sunshine!

Hawaiian Eye - lime sherbet, pineapple juice, ice cubes - again, blend like a shake. To make it just like Kaysers, put a dollop of whipped cream and a fresh strawberry on top.

Kaysers went out of business in the early 2000s, I think it was, but on the "Damn Right I Grew Up in Santa Barbara!" facebook group, we're always sharing recipes for our favorite drinks. There's also the Monkey Flip, the Hercules Flip (another good one), something that used buttermilk, date shakes, and others that I personally didn't care for so I don't remember them. My brother's favorite was the Monkey Flip, which used fresh, natural peanut butter and bananas. Oh, and Kaysers always gave 2 large cups with each order, and if you were friendly to the person making them, they'd give you the excess from that, too, in another little cup. My mom and I would always go and share one.

Any of my CraftsUprint designs that have 'Remember' on them were originally designed as birthday cards and I had to size, print and add the 'Remember'.

Then I skipped merrily on to Day 5's theme: Memorial Day. I thought the owl looked as though he was overlooking a battle field.

I have to agree with seascape131, LOVELY art work and recipes too.

My family like pop floats, not me. I would rather have my ice cream with milk and chocolate syrup. Yum.

I have caught up on the thread and now I am going to see what I can create. I know I will never be able to top you ladies. But I can always try.

All along the country roads, when the orange poppies come out the lupines join them. (Lupines are the state flower of Texas.) Lupines bloom bluish in taller clusters. We see the grasses and the flowers interspersed. The color combination sounds harsh but as nature does, it is always beautiful.

Love all the wonderful art! I have another from yesterday:

It is raining here so today. No problem, I can stay in and do art! I'll be back later, planning to try summer themes.

I have 2 more Poppies ATCs on offer, but I promised to put them on hold, first, for dsign49 since the one she asked for in trade for the one I asked for has already been taken.

Attachment 206938 - Poppies 6 - leans to the right, plus after I painted it I realized that I had cut the card too small so now it's got a black border from the correct sized card backing it. It's not in the photo, tho'. - TRADED

Attachment 206939 - Poppies 7 - leans left, no black border - TRADED
