Late to the discussion, but my 2cents worth is that I've always felt that a chunky should be thicker than an ATC, as you can embellish them heavier then an ATC. The rules I was given when I first made chunkies with another group was that it could have embellishments as high as half an inch and that it should be 4x4 chipboard.
I guess you could say it bugs me to get a chunky that's an atc weight. I've also been very bugged lately with atc's&coins being one piece of cardstock. What I usually use for chunkies is a child's board book. I get them at Dollar Tree 2 books for a dollar, they seem to be mostly Sesame street. They are a nice weight and they are 4 by 4. Sometimes coasters work also, tho they're thinner than a board book.
    Not my swap,Just my thots. : )

Excellent idea for dollar tree books.
I agree, chunkies should be chunky.

I use blank coasters that I purchased a large supply of from an online craft supply shop. My first introduction to them was the package of commercial chunky bases that I received for a prize from the AFA monthly contest. They were a standard chipboard thickness. I personally like them chunky, with lots of dangles and textures.
What I like about the coasters is that they are thick without being heavy on their own. However, when I run out, I think I'll run to the dollar store (especially if I find some board books that are already 4x4 and don't have to be cut). I also have used the backing of drawing paper pads.

Never fear nanvan. They are just like making an ATC. It is a great format for using those images you had that were just a little too big for an ATC.
You can use all your regular techniques on them and add a few more. Time to dig out some dimensional bits to add to them.

Thanks for the encouragement, JavaZarf. I do find it hard to add "chunky" bits to my cards, so making chunkies will be a challenge. On the plus side, I have drawers of chunky bits that I haven't been able to use on my ATCs. Just waiting to see what comes in my envelope and then I'll start mixing and matching!

I know the backs don't have to be decorated that much but I do like them when they are consistently decorated like the fronts. Ties the chunky page together really nicely.

WOW! My envelope arrived today. I hardly know where to start - except some of the items made themselves into a design, so that's where I'll start.

nanvan, I'm going to mail another envelope. If I received your coins already, I feel as though you should've received your envelope from me.
