I’ve seen Gelli + gel medium YouTube videos. Try Jane Davenport, Lindsay the frugal crafter, & Julie Balzer.

    Here’s a tutorial from Gelli’s site:

Personally the first time I tried Mod Podge it stayed tacky and have not touched the stuff since. But I think if that is what you like as a topcoat/sealer to art, it may work. What I use is either Goldens or Liquitex gel mediums.

Okay I found the video I was talking about. She is using the gel medium and geli plate at 7:50 to seal her Gelatos. if you wish to skip forward. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfEteyyfAzw

This was so fun! And I liked especially this time that it wasn't so intensive. I love a-thon in their normal way but this was more like "keep us sane" version and fit perfectly in my life now. I'm still working every day and keeping my own daycare but I feel that I need this kind of activities too. My daughter got a 28-day-long list what she "has to" do at home and it has kept her busy when I have been working with my laptop. Tis a-thon was kind of my 7 days long list . I hope we can start a new version soon.

I agree with Sniisk. This was really nice to have a longer time to work on things. I couldn't play as much as I wanted but I was able to check in and see all the wonderful art that was posted and that was so encouraging. Thank you CQ for hosting this! I would also be interested in another marathon.

I am sorry I was awol yesterday. CQ I agree, this was a perfect athon. I think the focus was less on massive trading and more on the friendships.

That said I did uploaded my cards last night. I've been staying up late, sleeping late and not getting motivated till even later. Then I stop for dinner, and work until well after midnight. One of my new projects is "GIMP" I needed a program to work with some digitals. I downloaded it, now the hard part will be learning a new program. I am so not into tech, but I like what I can do with it.

I have been thinking about an athon that encourages everyone to work on their own art. I spent two days working with my geli plate and still need more time learning that. And then there is Gimp and new techniques to learn. But I want it to other personal projects like scrapbooking, journaling, large canvas work, writing, anything creative. So what could I call it, it is more than a learn-a-thon? In fact it doesn't have to be an athon, it could just be a chat thread in the lounge. What do you all think? Would you be interested?

Would be interested in hearing about techniques - I have so many materials that I have never used and could use some motivation to TRY. Even a chat in the lounge would be good.

I love the idea of having a place to hang out and work on learning and improving! I feel like we need this common space to just meet people during this crisis.

I love the idea of a Learn-athon. I am still staying busy making masks, so my time is too limited to take swaps with deadlines seriously. I think that it would be fun to a have a low stress, no mailing deadlines event, with conversations that focus on new art techniques, not bad things on the news. It is a good time to practice, and perhaps fail, at trying new techniques which can be used for later swaps.

Yes! A what are you working on a-thon would be great fun. I'm doing so many art things right now that are not for trade, just for my sanity. And I love seeing what everyone is working on and chatting. I'll check out whatever is set up.

I bought a gelli plate only a few weeks before this hit, and have barely used it! I saw a video using one of those foam things that separate your toes when you do toe nail polish, and another using beach flip flops.

    How about ...
What are you working on non-a-thon for a name?

It can be listed under Learn-a-thon on calendar if we set it up for set dates. (what dates?)

Or Instead of the a-thon forum we could try the Art Discussion forum so we keep it open. But like my journal group, it can get really quiet over there. Which do you all prefer.

Any Co-Hosts? Or I can be the Co-Host if somebody else, with prettier vocabulary wants to set it up?

I think a learn-a-thon would be cool. And I'll be working from home through next week as well, so if we do it soon I'd gladly co-host and cheer people on. :3
