Postage stamp ATCs - PLACES/SCENERY Due: June 20

    Due date: June 20
postage date for non-Australians: May 13 (NOTE: change of suggested postage date!!)
I live in Australia - mail will NOT reach me quickly! I normally allow 3 weeks when mailing my swaps to anywhere in the world - I suggest you do the same.
This was before Corona virus shut down most of the flights into and out of Australia - I would now suggest that you allow at least a month if not 5 weeks.
    cards: 3:3 or 6:6
    participants: unlimited
media: any and all but MUST include at least 1 postage stamp with a PLACE OR SCENERY on it

    ALL RETURNS MAILED JULY 4

I have LOTS of postage stamps and love using them on my cards so I have decided to run a monthly series of swaps using different topics on the stamps. This is the 6th in the series.
short of stamps? Just ask - I have lots on most topics and I am very happy to send them to you. If you need some a little quicker just PM CastleQueen5 - she is in the US and has lots of postage stamps to share as well.

July- Flags August - Marine (fish, other sealife and plants) Sept - Land animals (not cats, dogs or butterflies Oct - Flowers/trees Nov - Household items/food (chairs, lamps, coffee pots, clocks, jugs, etc) Dec - Christmas Jan '21 - Birds (land or sea eg penguins) Feb - Music (musicians, dancers, singers, etc) Mar - Art (artists, pictures of Art - Classical, native, retro, etc) Apr - Sport (playing sport, sports equipment, Olympics, etc) May - Celebrations/ emotions

Please include a background for your stamp(s) - it can be an extension of the stamp design or abstract, or something in between. Plain white backgrounds will be returned unswapped.

Post to the thread to sign up.

PM me for my address when you are ready to mail - if you have an address in Robina, I am still there.

    Due date:
Cards are to be in my hand by June 20. I will mail your returns as soon as possible but remember, it took up to 3 weeks to reach me so your returns may take up to 3 weeks to reach you. Please be on time so others don't have to wait.

    Postage:
Australian players: please include a stamp equivalent to your postage
International players: unfortunately Australian international postage has gone up to $3.20 so I must ask for a well hidden US$2 of a Global Forever stamp

ALL players please include a LARGE address label (AT LEAST 2" x2"), I will supply envelopes. Please do NOT send those 3-in-a-row sleeves - they do not fit in my envelopes.

    1. Do your best work - I plan to swap effort-for-effort as much as I can.

    2. Clearly write your USERNAME and the SWAP NAME on the back of all your cards (so you can get fun rep points and on the back of your mailing envelope. I am running a few swaps and do not want to put you with the wrong returns.

    3. Please mail early to allow time to reach Australia

    4. An extra card for the swap Host is greatly appreciated but is not required.

    5. Embellishments are fine. The completed card needs to fit into a standard pocket and the embellishments need to be securely fastened so they don't fall off during shipping. If it is too bulky it is more than likely that the card will not reach me - either because the envelope has been torn and the card lost, or it is too heavy.

    6. Have fun!

    7. I will give iTrader feedback when I receive your cards and will also update this post showing that your cards have been received. In return I encourage you to give iTrader Host feedback to me when you receive your swap returns, and Rep points to the artists whose cards you receive. After all, knowing where your cards went is half the fun I think.

Same here! I wish I was more of a painter, so I could do extended scenes.

You are so GOOD at it!
I did try one, one time, and it was a failure. I might give it another go for this swap.

nanvan Thanks...my “skill” is due to lot and lots of practice. I’ve been on this site over 10 years. In fact, I can remember the first swap I joined - watercolor landscape. I was so paranoid that my cards wouldn’t be “good enough”. I eventually developed my own style but I have to tell you about a critique of my art that happened many years ago. I once belonged to the Doylestown Art League and we were encouraged to present our art for public analysis by an art critic. I brought in a small painting, perhaps 9 x 12, of a barn done very much in my current style with black ink lines and watercolor over those. The critic said it looked as if I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to do a drawing or a painting - that I should either just draw or paint. I tried doing that and I was never happy with my painting, so I just went back to doing what I do now. So I’m just saying that everybody has her own style and don’t compare!

Thanks for sharing your story, jo - you were wise not to let the critique stop you from painting. I love your style just the way it is.

welcome to our new signees - TrailRider, nanvan and Suzi

nice to see you back mouseit, lurkers are always welcome to spend time on my lurkers' couch (but you know that you all really want to play )

nanvan - when I try to do an extend the scene I try to find a stamp that has a lot of colour but not much detail. I have just had a delightful time going back through years of my cards to try and find the one that I was thinking about but couldn't find it. I know that I used this stamp (1st thumbnail), but this is a very similar extension (2nd thumbnail)
However, while hunting I also found some other options. If you want to keep it very simple (thumbnail 3 ) or a little bit of experiment back in 2014 (thumbnail 4). I cut the stamps in half horizontally, matched the design across the card then filled the gap in the middle (with embossing and ink pad in this example).
One of my favourite ways of 'extending the scene' is to scan the original stamp then progressively enlarge it (in this example I enlarged it 3 times), print the 3 new versions and layer them with the original stamp as the top layer.

Hope this hasn't put people off but simply given them other ways of using their stamps.

Laffqueen - I agree with Plumhill2001, your cards are great! What did you use for the background of the Seattle, Canada card?
