A year ago very few people, outside of Japan, or individuals without Japanese friends or family, had never heard of the Amabie.

In early 2020y, the internet was filled with images of, and stories about, the Amabie, a Japanese Yokai that is said to ward off epidemics. According to a legend from the 1800s, the Amabie appeared off the coast of Kumamoto, Japan, in the form of a mermaid-type creature with 3 tails, or three tail fins, or 3 legs, a beak, and long hair. The amabie, a yokai (Japanese folklore spirit), told the people that they would have bountiful crops. As the Amabie returned to the sea, it said "If an epidemic occurs, draw a picture of me and show it to everyone."

In the current pandemic, many artists have re-introduced images of the Amabie. The Japanese government has recently adopted the Amabie in some of their anti-Covid-19 campaigns.
You could make an AC of your version of an Amabie, even if you don't believe the legend!

Vicki I know you like spooky, and things that move. So this kind of covers both even if it's not mail art. I never get trick or treaters so I din't watch the whole thing but thought it was fun and clever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il6eAKfSSoE Going to share it in the A-thon thread to.

Dealing with COVID has forced a lot of changes, including social distancing, wearing masks, NOT visiting grandbabies and other relatives, chapped hands from frequent washings, plus closed, or only recently re-opened restaurants and fitness centers.

jo.on.the.go was talking about how her fitness centers recently re-opened, and I LOVE her line about the safety steps taken to assure the health of both employees and guests, including "enough chlorine in the pool to pickle a person."

2020 will go down in history as a Year of Changes, leading to a "New" Normal.

As you probably already know, there is a brand-new vocabulary for 2020!

Spouse has morphed into "My Quarantine Partner"

The "Purple Wall" is based on an online map showing state and county level counts of new, or the greatest number of, COVID cases in the previous week. One may have to "jump the purple wall", or pass through a high Covid risk area if driving somewhere to avoid the risk of flying.

The "Red Zone" in NO LONGER just the Political Typology that sorts voters into cohesive groups based on their attitudes and values. It is also a coronavirus "red zone", an indication of the hottest (highest count) Covid cases per area by state.

We also have "Isolation Pod", "Boredom Outbreaks", "Eerie Restaurants", Non-Pregnancy Cravings (for Toast)".

    ATCs NEED to be made!

I'm going to be a perky lurky for a bit and see what I can come up with. For me, personally, this year was supposed to be a time for me to focus on my art and writing. Well, it turns out that actually happened - thanks to C19. I was done with 2019 at about this time a year ago.

I always love your swaps, Vicki!

The drudgery of this pandemic drags on. The isolation gets tiring, and restaurants, fitness centers, and theaters closed makes one feel so isolated and alone with NOTHING to do.

Yesterday's paper had an article titled "Let's fly to Nowhere".
The article states that almost two-thirds of American say they would to interested in taking a "flight to nowhere" just to get out of the house, and do something.

One gets on to a plane with no destinations, flying for several hours and returning to the same airport.
No food, no drinks, no movies, no free peanuts.
But, it is air conditioned, closed company, virus free, and "safe".

    Cost is $260 on average.
Australia's Quantas recently offered such a flight, and it sold out in 10 minutes.
I'm NOT quite that bored, YET!!!!!!!

My cards are in the mail! Fingers crossed they don't take too long to reach you from Canada. Other swaps are averaging 3 weeks.
