1493: Christopher Columbus recorded sighting mermaids
On January 9,1493, Christopher Columbus wrote about seeing what he believed were three mermaids, off the Starboard side of his ship, when he was sailing near today's Dominican Republic.
Columbus left Spain months earlier with the ships, Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, to find a western trade route to Asia. His voyage instead led him to the "Americas", or the "New World".
In the 15th century, mermaid sightings by sailors were common. But modern interpreters say these "Sightings" of Mermaids were made-up stories, or mistaken dugons, manatees, or Sellar's sea cows. Modern interpreters do not believe in Mermaids.
Actually, what Columbus saw were mermaids, but don't tell!
Magick is created in the minds of those who believe, and the minds of those who want to believe, although mostly, Magick is created in the minds of those who don't believe at all but will do what it takes to amaze.
So go create some amazing, Magick Mermaids
