Waters of March Swap - open media - due April 12th.

This swap celebrates the very famous Brazilian Song "The Waters of March" originally written by Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1972. This song is more like a collage of images; it is full on nouns and visuals. Enough to make a swap if a few people are willing to join me.

Here is the original by Jobim. There is both a Portuguese and English version. Here is the English version.
It has been remade many, many times. One of my favorites is by Anya Maria. She does a pretty version that is a mix of Portuguese and English.

Swap Requirements ~
1. Each card must have two elements:
A. At least one image that is mentioned in the song.
B. A music note to indicate it is coming from a song. It can be one subtle note, a full bar, your choice.
2. All cards should be standard 3.5” x 2.5”
3. This swap is 3 for 3. An extra card for the host is always welcome and appreciated, but completely optional.

More about card design
*You can put words or multiple other images in your cards.
*I will put the lyrics into the next post so you can easily see them.
*There are multiple versions of this song. If you want to use a line that isn't from the original that is fine, just indicate on the back of your card which version of the song it came from.

Other stuff

Mailing Information ~
* Include username, real name, your state/country and the swap name on the back of all cards - and put username and swap name on all envelopes sent.
* US Participants – Please include a clearly written mailing label and stamp. This is what I prefer. If you send a SASE I'll use it, but not my first choice.
* International Participants - Please send a mailing label and I will cover postage. Again, I'll take an envelop, but not my first choice.
*Late cards past a day or so will be returned.
*I mostly try to swap effort for effort, but this is dependent on the cards I receive.

*When you receive your returns, please leave I-Trader for your swap host and rep points for the artists of the cards you receive. Also, in your rep points, naming which card you received is nice, since people like to know where their artworks end up.

Purple. You've gotten your returns

Google translate can help with the Portuguese if you do not know the language.

É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho
A stick, a stone
It's the end of the road
It's feeling alone
It's the weight of your load
It's a sliver of glass
It's life, it's the sun
It is night, it is death
It's a knife, it's a gun
A flower that blooms
A fox in the brush
A knot in the wood
The song of a thrush
The mistery of life
The steps in the hall
The sound of the wind
And the waterfall
It's the moon floating free
It's the curve of the slope
It's an ant, it's a be
It's a reason for hope
And the riverbank sings
Of the waters of march
It's the promise of spring
It's the joy in your heart
É o pé, é o chão
É a marcha estradeira
Passarinho na mão
Pedra de atiradeira
É uma ave no céu
É uma ave no chão
É um regato, uma fonte
É um pedaço de pão
É o fundo do poço
O fim do caminho
No rosto, o desgosto
Um pouco sozinho
A spear, a spike
A stake, a nail
It's a drip, it's a drop
It's the end of the tale
A dew on the leaf
In the morning light
The shot of a gun
In the dead of the night
A mile, a must
A thrust, a bump
It's the will to survive
It's a jolt, it's a jump
A blueprint of a house
A body in bed
The car stuck in the mud
It's the mud, it's the mud
A fish, a flash
A wish, a wink
It's a hawk, it's a dove
It's the promise of spring
And the riverbanks sings
Of the waters of march
It's the end of despair
It's the joy in your heart
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho
É uma cobra, é um pau
É joão, é José
É um espinho na mão
É um corte no pé
São as Àguas de Março
Fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
No teu coração
A stick, a stone
It's the end of the road
The stump of a tree
It's a frog, it's a toad
A sight of breath
A walk, a run
A life, a death
A ray in the sun
And the riverbank sings
Of the waters of march
It's the promise of life
It's the joy in your heart
São as Àguas de Março
Fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
No teu coração
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho
É pau, é pedra
É o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco
É um pouco sozinho

I just listened to the Art Garfunkel version. Definitely the same structure, but definitely some additional verses to pull from if that interested you. It is a nice version, very much feels like it is from the 70s. There is another version or two I might post about. I had thoughts about doing a running commentary after listening to each version I didn't know, but that seems a bit indulgent!
