And here is number three as well! I didn’t think I’d get her finished tonight so I’m pretty stoked to see that I did! Yay!

This one isn’t really ‘pure’ blocking as I blocked out the top text, but the last line was glued in from another page. Artist license, right?

    Hello, may I join please?

I made one of these yesterday. Absolutely kicked my butt, but I enjoyed the challenge!
I just spent the last several hours finding my poems, so I can definitely have these done by next week!

    Thanks!

Welcome AncientPlanter! How do you teach found poetry in class? Do you give your students old book pages? Xerox copies of book pages? Use magazines? I’ll bet they love the exercise. Once you start found poetry you never look at books the same way! Same as once you start drawing and painting you see shapes and shading everywhere, right?

I’ll get you signed up now.

Marie - I usually give magazines or photocopies of pages from books (I do this with ESL students). My mom taught high school English and she did the same thing, as did my own high school English teacher. It's so much fun! And here are the ones I did (using a story in a large print Readers Digest).

Oh golly Colleen! Those are great! I wonder if the original story was set in England ( roofless red busses) or Washington DC? I wondered how a teacher would approach this topic… the whole marking in books thing and all. I wish we’d done this at any of my schools! Or my kids schools! We all just discovered found poetry here at AFA.
    I love this place!

Wow Stick! Your cards are so determinedly hopeful! Love the messages and the art! Blackout is my favorite form of found poetry. It’s so ‘think inside the box’ and find every.single.thing that’s there. Look deeeeep!
I have to admit to a combo card though… on my error card I used block out but also pasted in a whole line from the next page….
This for is so mind stretching!!!

Love your poetry, Stick! Having 2 kittens in the house right now, I especially love "curiosity is innate" and I also really like "ensure spontaneity"!

Marie - I looked at the story again and it's an article based on the most physically pleasant counties ranked in the U.S. The most pleasant is Ventura County, CA, where my family lives (I grew up in the neighboring county of Santa Barbara so I know Ventura well). The article was written by a reporter on the Washington Post who lived in MD. It's about the last county on the list, Red Lake County in the northwest corner of Minnesota. No actual lakes, no hills, hot summers, brutal winters, "home to twice as many cows as people." The county invited him to visit to prove it's not the worst county in America. He ended up loving it so much that he moved his family there. Nice story, as most all of the Readers Digest stories are!

Welcome jhuss! Same here! I just added your name to the list. What type of found poetry do you prefer to create! To see? Is it the same type both ways?
