Hey, Miss Impatience here. The time I’m especially lacking in that virtue is when I’m really excited about something. Too old not to have it better controlled by now....but maybe in some way it will help keep me feeling young. Anyway, after all my concern about “articulated”, I’m thinking I could really enjoy that. Finally, my question: I’m trying to think about possible substrates. Shouldn’t these paperdolls be a little thicker than Bristol or 130lb watercolor paper? It seems they might need a good substrate base, though probably not rigid.
I generally make my dolls out of bristol or cereal boxes, depending on the look I'm going for. I just back it with pretty scrapbook paper like Holly said. Works just fine.
Haven't checked in in a few days and of course there's activity. I'm so glad I have seasoned paper doll pros to answer all the questions!!! Thanks ladies!
I double two pieces of 140lb watercolor paper if I want to color both sides, otherwise I used a single sheet. Useful things to know about construction: if articulating with brads don't punch closer than 1/4 inch ( 3mm) from the edge and reinforce the hole with tape.
I am grateful for any and all construction tips! In planning and drawing out my first one, I can see how best methods for addressing some of these issues can only be known through experience. Any little hints are appreciated.
Can i just say that I LOVE THE FREEDOM IN THIS SWAP!!!
I like themes, but I REALLY like being able to just cut loose!

I completely agree! I've done a couple of HD/HP art doll swaps lately and while I really enjoy them I feel like I'm a stronger mixed media artist and look forward to the freedom of using whatever i need to create what I'm envisioning.
I have completed the January Paper Doll for Nanner.
In her profile, I noticed she loved the Tinman and also pickles, so I came up with this Tin Man in a pickle Barrel. He does move, arms and legs. I really enjoyed creating this for Nanner pants! Hope she likes him.
I predict she will love it, Holly! I am excited to begin on yours, my little brads are arriving from Amazon any day now. Oh no, I’ve gone and given you a hint!

Oh, goodness! Who has the oil can?! This may be one of my favorite things EVER. Thank you, Hollykins! I love him!!!
