Postage stamp Athon Jan 21-24
This Athon is open to everyone and every kind of level and types of art.
Start time (in MY time zone) 12.01am (JUST after midnight) on Friday 21 January and end time 11.59pm (midnight) on Monday 24 January in the latest time zone, or thereabouts. . .
ALL CREATIONS MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 1 POSTAGE STAMP - these can be real or faux but, if not real, this must be made clear when offering for trade.
What we can do: ATCs, APCs, ATCoins (2.5" circles), Chunky lite pages (4" x4" with no dangles, for ease of mailing), Inchies (1" x1"), Twinchies (2" x2"), Moos (1" x2.75"), tags or whatever type of art your Muse calls you to create
OPTIONAL CHALLENGES FOR THIS ATHON:
Friday: extend the scene OR use book pages OR use maps
Saturday: add a doily OR washi tape OR ribbon OR twine
Sunday: monochrome background OR use stencils for background
Monday: add die cuts OR stickers OR rub-ons
How it works:
Start creating art when it's time to start, then upload your lovely creations to your Athon Gallery and post to the thread. Trading and chatting are going on all the time as people are awake in different time zones.
How to ask for a trade:
When you see a piece of art you would like to trade, please SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE (PM) to that person asking for a trade. Please DO NOT post requests for trades to the thread - it can get way too confusing and may be missed in all the chatter.
NOTE: if you do make a trade, please be sure to send it to your trade partner within 2 weeks. If you're running late, communicate!
Want to compliment an artist:
And you will. . . remember you can click the You Rock button and leave your compliment/comment there.
HOW TO POST YOUR ART TO THE THREAD:
From your atcsforall.com gallery
It's easiest to have 2 windows open.
1) Go to your Gallery and right click on the picture you wish to post - this brings up a menu that includes 'Copy image'
2) Click on this
3) Go to your post in the thread and hit Paste (Ctrl V)
4) This allow you to add 10 images to your post
OR
Thumbnails (only 5 of these can be attached to a single post)
1) at the bottom of a new post there is a 'Go advanced' button - click on this
2) you will be taken to a new window, which will still show anything you have already written. In the top line of commands there is a paper clip - put your cursor over this and it will come up with the label 'Attachments'
3) left click on the paper clip and a 2nd new window will appear.
4) click on ADD FILES at the top and then click BROWSE. This will allow you to browse your computer and choose the image you wish to upload.
5) click the DONE button in the bottom right of this screen - the images you have chosen will appear at the bottom of your post
6) if you want to attach them in your post, click on the INSERT INLINE button instead
NEW TO ATHONS?
If you have any questions at all, feel free to PM me or post your questions to the thread. We have a lot of experienced art-a-thoners who are more than willing to help those of you new to this craziness.
IMPORTANT: REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR USERNAME ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARDS. You can't get an iTrader if your trading partner doesn't' know who you are.

I’ll be there - I have a shoebox full of stamps, mostly from my childhood stamp collection from over 50 years ago (I’m an oldie). At least back then I had the interest in collecting stamps with animals pictured, and stamps from all over the world. As I look at these stamps half the African countries no longer exist! I promise I won’t use any stamps featuring Hitler.

I'll be there! I'm putting candidates for extended scenes aside. I recently acquired mixed lots of stamps that revealed some historical artifacts when I went to put them in organizer sheets - several swastikas and stamps from places like Rhodesia. I won't be using any of those for cards. It feels weird to have them in my collection. I'm focusing on the animals and butterflies.

Love the enthusiasm for postage stamps from you all.
I am hoping to FINALLY make a little dint in the 2 folders of stamps that I have sorted (I need the space to file the stamps that I have soaked off their envelopes but not yet put away
)
-
Hope to play - will go through my stamps tomorrow.

Tip: During this pandemic a lot of stamps are coming to me completely pristine and un-cancelled but there are times a stamp that I really like and want to use comes through with a big blob of BLACK INK all over it. I take a very small dot of alcohol based hand sanitizer or just a very small amount of alcohol and put it on a tissue or toilet paper and rub it gently over the stamp. It usually removes the ink from being cancelled enough that the stamp is visible. Some times it removes all of the ink. I do not know what effect this has on the actual stamp and whether it will fade or degrade over time? Also it does not work every time. I think perhaps if I do it as soon as the envelope arrives I have better luck but the longer the ink sits in the stamp the more it dries and will not lift off.

Oooh - I just saw the new US 2022 LOVE stamps.
Attachment 228612
They're inspired by old European folk art. So pretty! Does anyone have some that they will be using? Has there been enough time since they were issued to send and receive any mail with these new stamps? Probably not. I'm sure we all have plenty of other stamps to use. I know I do. Still, those Love stamps would be fun to play with on cards!

When I find a set of stamps that Australia Post is releasing that I really love, I admit that I 'cheat' and buy them and use them fresh.

Somnia, I don't have any yet, but will be buying them Feb 1st. I'll be sure to send you some. They really are great.
I've got a big box of stamps I'm sorting through. Decisions, decisions!
