Thank you. It was very freeing to just play with nothing particular in mind for a change. I had a great weekend.

The posters upon which the stamps were built were created by Depression-era artists employed by the Poster Division of the WPA Federal Art Project. The designs were originally created to support the civic-minded ideals of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal programs.
“It is undeniable that Franklin Delano Roosevelt understood the importance of visual design and how it could communicate powerful messages of optimism, hope and perseverance."
These stamps commemorate the work of Roosevelt's most ambitious New Deal program and the artwork generated from the WPA artists. Much of the artwork adorned public buildings built by WPA employees.
Formed in 1935 as the Works Progress Administration — renamed Work Projects Administration in 1939 — the WPA provided millions of jobs during the Great Depression. Lasting until 1943, the WPA’s Federal Art Program’s Poster Division was absorbed into World War II programs.
WPA artists greatly advanced silkscreen-printing, an economical medium, also employing woodblock and lithographic processes. At the height of the Federal Art Program, cities in 18 states had Poster Project offices, printing 2 million posters of approximately 35,000 designs.
Posters were displayed in public spaces and municipal buildings to encourage domestic travel, education, health, conservation and other civic ideals, while stimulating morale and the economy. Decades of obscurity followed the posters’ disappearance from the American scene but appreciation of the posters’ distinctive style and artistic influence has grown since their re-discovery.
Background on Poster Designs
Many records about the Poster Division are long lost. Known poster office locations and publication dates are as follows:
“Hiking,” Chicago, 1939.
“Field Day,” Chicago, 1939.
“Discover Puerto Rico, U.S.A.,” New York City, ca. 1936–40.
“City of New York Municipal Airports,” New York City, ca. 1936–37.
“Visit the Zoo,” Pennsylvania, ca. 1936–41.
“Work With Care,” Philadelphia, ca. 1936–37.
“The National Parks Preserve Wild Life,” New York City, ca. 1936–39.
“Work Pays America! Prosperity,” New York City, ca. 1936–41.
“See America Welcome to Montana,” New York City, ca. 1936–39.
“The United States’ First Foreign Trade Zone,” New York City, 1937.
The posters featured on these stamps are from the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress, which houses the largest collection of WPA posters.

Donnacr - I love the way you used the animals from the card I sent you. I knew you would do good things with those beasties (post 137, cards #38 - 40)

A couple of people commented on the penguin from my yellow collage. It's a sticker from this book, which is available at bookoutlet.ca for a good price (in Canada).

The book is full of wacky stickers. They have ugly borders that need fussy cutting, but I think it's worth it.
Sorry that book cover is so big

Well... I'm sorry I missed this one! I'm a bit of a late-comer to the whole postage stamp thing, but I made a few for the Post-Christmas ATART and a few more for the Postage Stamp Mixup 3 swap... and now I am HOOKED on stamps. Going through this thread I felt like a kid in a candy shop: I want. I WANT. I WANT!!!!
Some seriously marvelous cards here! Kudos to all!!!!

How old is your Grand daughter? I thought she was pretty young. She did a great job. I wonder sometimes if the stamps I have saved. (not off the envelope of course) are real stamps or just fun stamps to use as whatever in art.

I went to get my blood work done for my oncologist, then to my PCPs other office to get some samples of a new drug she wants me to use. I used it before with my last PCP. Ugh.
They were taking so long to hand me the samples that I told them I was going to the Police station ( to report them, haha). they laughed, but really to drop off some collars, and leashes for the Humane society/animal control. Small town and they are inner connected.
So when I went back I still had to wait. Finally got to Safeway for the grocery list that my daughter gave me. I listened to Meatloaf via my phone and some blue tooth thing my hubby had in the car. I was so empowered when I figured out how to use it, a few weeks ago. Last time I listened to Bob Seger on the way to Benson. Anyway Meatloaf has some really long songs. Really long. my trips to town are a 30 minute travel time. I think I got through 3 songs both ways. I was listening to my faves of his , Two out of 3 ain't bad and I would do anything for love.
So I have eaten some lunch, I have me feet on a heating pad, and dont want to move.
The rest of the day is mine. Or yours, I guess since I plan to see what else I can create. OR I could crawl in bed, cover my cold feet and read a book.

I thought I was going to get a few cards finished. I did start a few, but I decided to take more time to make them and not rush. Especially for my Gregory Hines stamp, of which I only have two left.
I received a lot of inspiration looking through all of your cards. Thanks!
