Altered Paintbrush Swap – Due May 14

    Due date: May 14, 2022
Sign up/withdraw: No deadline, just communicate
    Number of art pieces: 3/3
    Number of players: Unlimited
    Medium: Open/Mix

    ~ Altered Paintbrush Swap ~
Do you love mix media & paintbrushes? Then this swap is for you!

Object: Create mix media art on top of a large bristle paint brush --> the type used for larger projects/paint walls. ANY SIZE. I found mine at the Dollar Tree.

Think of the paintbrush as your canvas. You may paint directly on them and turn into a mix media masterpiece by adding chucky elements, household items, clay pieces, fabric, twine, silk flowers, quotes… use paint, gesso, ink… any medium you like. Make sure to use a strong adhesive (gel medium, hot glue, E6000, etc.) to adhere items to the front of the brush. These are meant to be hung / placed on display, so please avoid using chunky elements on the back.
Open theme: Create anything you like!

Find inspiration on Google images, or on YouTube. Search: Altered Paintbrush

Please share your artwork. This is a fun way to inspire others.

Include: swap name, date, your username, and location to the back of each brush.

    Mailing:
    • Send art that you are proud of.
    • Wrap each piece individually and place in a secured bubble envelope, or box with bubble wrap. If possible, I will reuse the same mailing material.
    • Include a LARGE return address label (clearly written / typed).
    • Postage: Include the same amount of postage in US dollars for your returns. For US participants, this may be $5 (or more) depending on package size. Players (both US and International) may also send postage payment to my PayPal account (send private message for info). If there are issues with postage, don't worry! Just send me a private message and I will help cover the cost.
    • Write your username and swap name to the outside of the package.
    • Send a private message for my mailing address. I recently moved; make sure to ask for my address. Once sent, post to this thread so I may keep a lookout.

Rep and iTrader: A lot of time goes into creating this art. Please make sure to show gratitude by leaving rep points for the art received (you rock button), and an iTrader for me – your hostess.
Extra postage or hostess gift is appreciated but not required.

Here is an example that I made, mermaid theme.

I began by covering the entire brush with white gesso. Wrapped the handle in twine. Made clay elements (mermaid tail, shells, fish) and attached with gel medium. Added rolled paper towel, small glass stones for extra texture. Painted with metallic paint (front and back). Added sequins and message.
Included a chain at the top with a small container of mermaid wishes

Thank you CiCi! I’ve been wanting to host this swap for 6 months now. Figured it was time to post, and see if anyone else would like to join the fun. Hope you return.

Thanks for the invite. I'm going to lurk a bit right now and see what happens. Have you contacted Nanner and ArtJunkie? I think they might be interested. I have to say that those examples are rocking it. What size brush? 3" or 4" wide?

Miss Trina and zhouzhou welcome to the lurkers lounge. Hope you both join!! Nanner and ArtJunkie have been invited too. Want this party to be filled with the most fabulous of the fabulous!

The mermaid brush I created is only 2" wide.

I picked up a mix of sizes, including this 2 pack from the Dollar Tree that are 3" and 1.5"

The brush size is entirely up to you. I found a few different sizes at the dollar store from 1.5" to 3".

My mermaid example is on a 2" wide brush. Personally, I like this size and will most like continue using the 2".

I found 4 brushes that will work. But I need to finish my torn paper cards and the distress oxide ones. And maybe the Trash to treasure ones.
Good thing I am retired and still hiding out from crowds.
