This is so exciting and fun! I sketched out my first doll - a lion’s head on a human body wearing a purple smoking jacket. Still very early stages.

CiCi-This is so fun to hear how jazzed you are and your ideas flow on creating these.
Annie's dolls are on FB too. Have you seen her two latest owl babies? They are holding mice. I also love her Swan pair. If you look closely at her collections not all have human hands...like the swans, the wing tips show.
I don't mind if the hands are are fur or hooves or winglike but definitely must look like human arms in some way and the feet and legs more human form. I think if you study her art dolls they are varied but in the same style. Definitely wish I could afford one for real. Ha!

Holly - all the dolls I’ve seen so far have been on Pinterest. I’ll have to check other sites too. Her animal heads are so realistic and expressive. Thanks for clarifying about maybe using paws on some instead of human hands. All I have seen is the hands, but it’s not quite as limiting this way. I’d love to see her swans, I used to collect swan figurines years ago. The other fun thing I have noticed on some (of course not all), is that if they are carrying a little doll, it is often a “mini-me”, looks like a little stuffed toy that’s the same animal they are.

Another thought: You can add a very flat ribbon or button or a snap or a stitch or piece of cloth. or a mini-me even..It is really all up to
you-Just keep them fairly flat. If you need to send in a little larger envy, well, that's ok too but make sure to add the difference in postage is all. Most of all have lots of fun creating these.

Lurking for now. Love Annie M's dolls! I'd love to have one but it looks like they sell for $800-$2500 and sell out as fast as she posts them.

Ok, I just made a new sketch of the lion. I loved the lion head, so kept that, but put him on a new body. The purple smoking jacket was appropriate for a lion, I thought, but it didn’t look at all like clothing Annie would have chosen. So now he will wear long checked pants with a knit patterned pullover sweater and hold a tiny stuffed lion. Now I have to take a break while I fulfill other swap obligations - be back here soon.

Hi, Holly, Thank you for the invite. I'm lurking and thinking about this. Do you think 300 gsm watercolor paper would be stiff enough, and do we paint both sides or just the front? Also, the brads I've been able to find here are pretty chunky, so I'd have to punch a hole at the articulation point. Is that done?

I usually use 140 lb watercolor paper and often I back mine with another paper for the back. Like a pretty cardstock if it needs to be more sturdy. Articulation points are normally where the brads do go but of course you can put a brad almost anywhere...like for a hat to tilt etc.
You can find nice small brads at Michaels or Hob Lob.

Raffi is very cool Laffqueen...keep on rockin it!
