MARVELOUS MASQUERADE BALL (Articulated Paperdolls) due July 23
Due Date: July 23
Signup/Withdrawal Date: July 14
Number of Dolls: 3 for 3
Number of Players: 12
Media: Articulated paperdolls; hd/hp, collage, mixed media; metallic pens, glitter pens, ribbons, sequins, TINY rhinestones
Here is another articulated paperdoll swap for those of you who love them - even for those who have never done one before, but would like to try. I was there too, about 5 months ago. I found them to be lots of fun, and quickly became hooked!
All of the paperdolls in this swap will be dressed in fancy costumes as if they are attending a Masquerade Ball. They can be human or animals, size requirement is 6” - 8 1/2” and anywhere in between. Only two articulation points are necessary, but you may include more if you like.
PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE A MASK. It could be held in an articulated “wrist” or attached with tabs folded to the back of the head. It could be a simple full mask or a fancy half mask. Please don’t stress over the mask, as it can be tricky to get elbow and wrist joints positioned so that a hand held mask fits directly over the eyes. Instead, the mak could be stationary, and simply held in the hand. Or maybe we don’t need to see the real face at all, if you choose to paint or glue the mask in place. My own submissions are pictured below, as examples.
Here are some fancy costume themes, just for inspiration:
MALES:
Pirate
Cavalier
Pierrot clown
Harlequin
Court jester
King Henry VIII
Matador
Roma man (gypsy)
Greek God
FEMALES:
Marie Antoinette
Queen Elizabeth I
Fairy Princess
Ballerina
Cleopatra
Roma lady (gypsy)
Geisha
Flamenco dancer
Greek Goddess

The center lady holds a "mask fan", authentic to the eighteenth century. I used to be a fan collector, but never found one of these rare examples. The other picture shows the Frog Prince and Caterina unmasked.
Your examples are brilliant, CiCi!!!
I suppose I should go ahead and sign up!
...Now I am really behind...guess I need to finish up some of these dolls!!!
Cici, I think I was overzealous in joining. After looking at my schedule more realistically I realize I need to drop. Sorry ‘bout that. Hopefully I can catch one of your other swaps later.
Love to trade two dimensional dolls - two sleeve, articulated, Kokeshi, whatever you like!
