Really hate to see you go, but stress is not good! See you again on the monthly paperdoll swap (I think you are my June recipient).

So glad to have you Shannon! Be careful, I think you might end up addicted like I did. The planning part, where the articulation will be, what it enables the doll to do, and then the fun painting of your subject - really fun and creative!

I’m really anxious to start my dolls. I’ve never done an articulated swap either.

That’s great, Mollie! If any questions come up, be sure to ask. We have some seasoned paperdoll makers signed up here, but I think once you begin, you will find your way, whatever seems to work best for you. I usually do my basic sketch of the figure, and then decide where articulations will go, attached with paper fasteners called brads. Then I use a light box (or sunny window) to trace over the figure, tracing the articulated areas separately (elbows, shoulders, maybe wrists too, not necessarily on both arms. Legs (or feet peaking out beneath a gown) can also be articulated. Then I paint all pieces before cutting out. Then the holes are punched where I put dots earlier, and the brads inserted. If the brads are super tiny, a hole punch is too big. I place the pieces on a pad of folded felt and poke a hole through with a sturdy darning needle. When the brads are all in place, you can play with different positions and admire your work!

~Question~
What about the back of our dolls? Do we decorate that side as well? Thanks!
-
Not really necessary, but you could glue a pretty paper pattern on prior to cutting out. Sometimes I do this just to give the paperdoll a bit more substance (thickness). Or you could paint a light color, solid or maybe splatters with a toothbrush.

Great! Thank you!!

Well, my picture examples might not all be used for swapping. I just got ideas and made initial sketches for 2 new masquerade subjects. How is everyone coming along? Remember, your subject can be either human or animal.

I have my first lovely lady sketched. I LOVE creating her gown. So far it's my favorite part.
Now trying to decide if I want to use colored pencils, water color, or acrylic. If I had fine tip markers I'd use those.
I do know sparkle well be added.

Sparkle is definitely encouraged for this theme! And designing and painting the costume is probably my favorite part too.
