ATART--Come PLAY Create-Trade-Share-Chat September 24-26

This is the official thread for an all-types-of-art-athon (ATART) September 24-26.

I thought it would be fun just to have a couple of days of Play!

Have time to make art? Cool!
Have time to trade art? Cool!
Working on other art projects and want to share photos or just tell us about them? Cool!
Got some new art supplies you want to tell us about? Cool!
Want to enjoy other people's art? Cool!
Want to just chit chat? Cool!

So this runs September 24-26.

(Apologies to those who are like...."Cynthia, it's Rosh Hashanah! When do you expect me to get free time?!" I really thought that was next weekend. This is what happens when a shiska plans the athon!)

As we so often do, this starts the moment it becomes September 24 somewhere in the world, so New Zealand time essentially starts us and it goes as long as it is September 26 somewhere in the world. Of course, you don't have to be here for either of those exact moments...I don't know that I will be here those exact moments, though I will check in as soon as I can. But if it's September 24 somewhere, yes, start playing and chatting.

I will be posting some totally optional prompts for stuck muses, but feel free to create what you want. And remember if your art time is devoted to another project, like a swap, feel free to tell us what you're working on. Please note if items are not available for trade just to avoid confusion.

And remember, it is totally cool to just come and admire and chat, too.

Optional Prompts

September 24:

Pink (I'm thinking the color, but if you want to illustrate the singer, go for it!)
Symbols/Totems --we all have symbols that matter to us. For me, it's crescent moons, palm trees, roses, fern leaves, cat silhouettes, and, of course, elephants. What are your symbols or totems?

September 25:

Layers Whether your work is hand-drawn, hand-painted, rubber stamped, collaged, mixed media--try some layering!
People As my cat would say, "you can't live with them and you can't get the cans of food open without them," so let's celebrate people!

September 26:

Whimsy All the definitions I can find for whimsy include playful, fanciful, and odd. I would add quirky, imaginative, and joyful to that.
Travel Whether you want to travel use your art to travel to places or through time or into dreams or out to space... travel!

What is an ATART?
It's an All Types of ART marathon where you can create art with fellow artists, at the same time in each time zone. This thread will become our craft room.

How it works:
Start creating art when it's time to start, then upload your lovely creations to your Athon Gallery and post them to the thread. Trading and chatting are going on all the time as people are awake in different time zones.

How to ask for a trade:
When you see a piece of art you would like to trade for, please SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE (PM) to that person asking for a trade. Please DO NOT post requests for trades to the thread - it can get way too confusing and may be missed in all the chatter.

NOTE: when you do make a trade, please be sure to send it to your trade partner within 2 weeks. If you're running late, communicate!

If you want to compliment an artist - and you will - remember you can click the You Rock button and leave your compliment/comment there.

HOW TO POST YOUR ART TO THE THREAD
From your atcsforall.com gallery:
It’s easiest to have two windows open.
1) Go to your gallery and open the image you want to insert.
2) Copy the row with [IMG] codes. (copy is ctrl+c and paste is ctrl+v in Windows)
3) Go to your post and paste the copies [IMG] code.
5) and then you're done.

From your computer:
1. Click POST REPLY at the bottom of the messages screen. Above the message box, click the paperclip next to the smiley face. Then upload as usual. This will upload your picture as a thumbnail.
2. If you go into the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the messages screen, click GO ADVANCED and you will get the paperclip above the message box.

NEW TO Art A-Thons? If you have any questions at all, feel free to PM me or post your questions to the thread. We have a lot of experienced art-a-thoners who are more than willing to help those of you new to this craziness.

I forgot to add that of course you can start pulling supplies or working on backgrounds ahead of time. Also, it's a good idea to clear out space in your PM box and also you may want to move cards from former athons to your available to trade category. (Something I often forget, but I'm trying to be better about!)

I am two hours earlier than Eastern U.S. and one ahead of Pacific Eastern. It is 2 a.m. here on the 21st (I may need to go to bed at some point) and just after 8 p.m. on the 21st of New Zealand. That may give you some idea of the lead time or it may just confuse things.

If you're more precise, New Zealand is 12 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time.)
