Snowed under with work and lurking...
Check out abstract paintings in my gallery!

I've been there my friend, desire to make cards, but work is work. Hopefully you can get some time freed up and can make some cards!

Another famous chess set is the Soviet era Botvinnik-Flohr II set. The link is an interesting article about the development of these sets.

Pancake Machine and Theresagram, thank you so much for the links! Chess sets are in an art class by themselves! — sometimes the boards are really cool on their own!

One of the famous boards is the Drueke board. Produced for most of the time in Grand Rapids Michigan, they are beautiful wood boards. The link leads to a video about the company, the lovely boards they produced, as well as finely designed chess pieces.

I read through the Drueke board article. The whole site has a lot of chess articles. One of them is about a cypress tree that may have been around when Moses was put into the reed basket. The tree recently burned, and someone made a chess set from pieces of the tree.
I’ve been working on this character for awhile.

What an interesting story! Thanks for sharing that. The youtube video about the Drueke board was interesting too. It has been fun learning more about the art behind chess.
My main impetus for the chess swap was my love for The Queen's Gambit. However, sometimes, one of the nice things about hosting is that you start looking deeper into the swap idea and learn new stuff! My old swap for Fearsome Beasts of the Lumberwood was like that too.

There are a number of bad moves in chess, but the one that amuses me because of the name is the Bongcloud attack. A little chess humor to throw in here!

That is too funny, pancake machine! — loving that there are links to chess moves! Some people were talking about chess today at work, and I thought it was a cool coincidence, in a language I didn’t understand, even though they were speaking English. I don’t know how I came across The Queen’s Gambit, but I loved that series…I think I watched it at least twice. I don’t have Netflix anymore, but there are shows, including this one, that make me miss it! Searching for Bobby Fischer is such a good movie too…hard to believe that it’s almost 30 years old!

I agree, about both the movie and the show. Well, I recall liking Searching for Bobby Fischer, but haven't seen it in a long, long time. But really love the Queen's Gambit.
That took me to looking at other movies that feature a chess game. There is the Harry Potter movie, and a 007 movie, from Russia with Love. Also, an X-men movie; so some pretty big series! And if you want to go classi, Bergman's the seventh seal; which i really should watch.
