I remember the movie The Thomas Crown Affair, with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, having a rather torrid chess game scene.

And I recall a lovely French film with Kevin Kline called Queen to Play.

I LOVE Kevin Kline, and I thought I had seen all of his movies!
    ("French Kiss" is my FAVE!!)

But I have not seen "Queen to Play".
    Thanks!

Nice! I was just thinking about Kevin Kline yesterday - a presenter looked kinda like him. I don't know that move either. I've heard of Thomas Crowne Affair, but never seen. A torrid chess scene! How delightful!

One of the wonderful things about ATC swaps, even the host learns new things about the swap theme being hosted.
(no offence intended PM, it happens to me all the time when I host.)

BTW, there was a remake of the Thomas Crown Affair, so be sure to check out the Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen (original) version.
Be careful, Faye Dunaway was in BOTH the original and the remake.

oh certainly, no offense, and love the new info! I think we do similar things when hosting swaps. It is a nice way to bump up a thread and you learn new information too. Some of what I've posted about Chess I'd looked up before, but a lot of it is new too!

The steamy comment reminded me of the photo of Eve Babitz playing chess in the nude against Duchamp. The link is for an article about the event, why she chose to have the photographs made and includes the main image she selected.

Leydab and desert_artist, what great hand drawing and painting! I had to recheck the swap title, as I have absolutely no HD/HP skills. Only do abstracts.

But I make a mean collage.

I LOVE the life-size chess game in Harry Potter. Definitely one of my fave scenes in the movie.

Thank you, Collagaint Ashley! I usually do a lot of literal cutting and pasting — and experimenting, and throwing away! Are you in this swap? I am having so much fun thinking about the art and looking up things. The life-sized game sounds cool! I looked at your gallery…It’s stunning!

Just found this: on February 19th, 2017, chess entered pop culture big time. The 15th episode of the 28th season of the Simpsons, labeled “The Cad and the Hat“, introduces Homer Simpson as a “chess savant.”

Oh how cool! Hopefully you get a chance to join Collagaint Ashley, but even if you can't, appreciate you stopping by! And definitely open media. One of mine is collage, one is HD, and one is mixed media.

Along with the lovely HD work by Leydab, Globug, and Desert_Artist, LaffQueen posted some fine collages!

Theresagram had mentioned a company in an earlier post that does themed boards. That is one of the funs of chess, so many different board variations if you are not playing professionally. Here is another one, Studio Anne Carlton. Everything from battles, such as American Revolutionary war or Waterloo, to Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. Very nice pieces!

Thank you for the new link, pancake machine!

I have been looking at so many chess sets and pieces…It’s easy to fall in love with the artwork! There are lots of cool sets on Etsy. Some of the boards are quite unique! I have so many ideas, and now I’m on a small break from work. I am hoping to have my cards finished up this week.
