Tried a new technique today but . . I will only use it as a 'fallback' if I don't use that 'dam***' kit!!
Using markmakers with embossing ink and then embossing powders . . . think I enjoyed this!!! 713 Embossing Technique2.jpg

I am pleased with my experiment. These are trace mono prints-I placed a piece of glass from a picture frame over a magazine image and traced/colored it on the glass with Crayola washable markers. Then took card stock I had dipped in water to pick up the print off the glass. When the prints were thoroughly dry, I used a black fine tipped pen to add details. Then cut to ATC size. The card on the lower right has a bit of collage-paper napkin on the corner(I tried some white pen designs but did not like the effect so I covered it up!)
I’m trying to decide if they need a backing to make them thicker(more card like). They are just thin card stock. Thoughts on this?
The Walnut Tree - they can be the same. I'll get you added.
Bunnymther - those are really cool!
CQ - I am sorry that you've been ill and I hope that you are recovering quickly.
Here are my cards for this swap (plus one for the host). I'll mail them out on Monday. They have real shed skin from my snakes on them. It was fun using them in my cards. In addition to the snake shed being something new, I tried ice painting! The background is guache paint (a new type of paint for me also) diluted with water, then froze in ice cube trays. Then I painted with them, by putting them on the watercolor paper and tilting the paper, so the frozen paint cubes would glide around. Really fun! Also: I totally understand that snakes are not for everyone. So please let our host know if you do not wish to receive one of these atcs. Snakes are often misunderstood, and I would be happy to answer any questions you have about them if you send me a private message. Thanks! dd.jpgcc.jpg bb.jpgaa.jpg
Tafkabecky, I love those snakeskin cards - so unique! The creatively utilized snakeskin doesn’t bother me at all, although the snake itself might,……but better a snake than a tarantula or black widow!
Melissa, this was a wonderful swap idea. So many interesting techniques are being tried and described, I want to make a note of all of them. So far, I have tried melted crayon art, lace transfer, used dryer sheet painting, and nail polish marbling. I want to also try chalk floating, then I will decide on which cards to submit (I may photograph them all though.)
It’s not powder, regular chalk sticks (pastels) that you scrape off little flecks onto water with your fingernail. It floats on the water, then you dip the paper in and back out. It looks simple, but we shall see!
What a coincidence CICICreates! Pastels marbling was actually one of the techniques I wanted to try too! So far I only use my pastels for painting. The other day I used them with stencils, for a background in mixed media. I had seen the method with pan pastels, but I don't have pan pastels, so decided to use my regular soft pastels in sticks with a make up brush and I loved the results!
Another technique I want to try is drawing with a dip pen with fountain pen ink. My husband likes to write with fountain pens, and has several ink bottles in different colors that I will "borrow".
Hand-Made Stencils - I drew and cut my own stencil images, used a small stencil brush to apply pink and green acrylic paint, filled in the stencils with gold and silver glitter glue.
