    Postage stamp Athon Mar 17-20

This Athon is for anyone who has ever saved a pretty stamp and then discovered that they multiply in the dark and you now have them EVERYWHERE!

Let's help each other diminish our reserves while making beautiful creations and trading with old and new friends.

Start time (in MY time zone) 12.01am (JUST after midnight) on Friday 17 March and end time 11.59pm (midnight) on Monday 20 March in the latest time zone, or thereabouts.

What we can do: ATCs, APCs, ATCoins (2.5" circle), Chunky pages (4" x4"), Twinchies (2" x2"), Moos (1" x2.75"), tags, shaped cards or whatever type of art your Muse calls you to create

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGES FOR THIS ATHON:
Friday: extend the design on the stamp OR

Saturday: monochrome OR try a different size (Twinchies, Moos, Chunkies, etc) OR

Sunday: make a postage stamp background (random stamps placed randomly or build a scene using stamps) OR make them the feature of your creation OR

    Monday:
postage stamp people OR use a tea label/packaging and a co-ordinating postage stamp

    How it works:
Start creating when it's time to start, then upload your lovely creations to your Athon Gallery and post to the thread. Trading and chatting are going on all the time as people are awake in different time zones.

How to ask for a trade:
When you see a piece of art you would like to trade for, please SEND A PERONAL MESSAGE (PM) to that person asking for a trade. Please DO NOT post requests for trades to the thread - it can get way too confusing and may be missed in all the chatter.

NOTE: when you do make a trade, please be sure to send it to your trade partner within 2 weeks. If you're running late, communicate!

    Want to compliment an artist:
And you will. . . remember you can click the You Rock button and leave your compliment/ comment there.
You may notice some people saying that they have been 'throwing Rocks' - they have been using the You Rock button and giving compliments.

HOW TO POST YOUR ART TO THE THREAD
    From your atcsforall.com gallery
It's easiest to have 2 windows open
    1) go to your Gallery and right click on the picture you wish to post - this brings up a menu that includes "Copy image"
    2) Click on this
    3) Go to your post in the thread and hit Paste (Ctrl V)
    4) This allows you to add 10 images to your post.
    OR
Thumbnails (only 5 of these images can be attached to a single post)
    1) at the bottom of a new post in a thread there is a "Go Advanced" button - click on this
    2) you will be taken to a new window, which will show what you have already written. In the top line of commands there is a paper clip - put your cursor over this ad it will come up with the label "Attachments"
    3) left click on the paper clip and a 2nd new window will appear.
    4) click on ADD FILES at the top and then click BROWSE. This will allow you to browse your computer and choose the image you wish to upload (it does NOT have to be in your Gallery)
    5) click the DONE button in the bottom R of this screen - the images you have chosen will appear at the bottom of your post
    6) if you want to attach them in your post, click on the INSERT INLINE button instead.

    NEW TO ATHONS?
If you have any questions at all, feel free to PM me or post your questions to the thread. We have a lot of experienced athoners who are more than willing to help those of you new to this craziness.

IMPORTANT: REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR USERNAME ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARDS. You can't get an iTrader if your trading partner doesn't know who you are.

ALL trades in an Athon are given iTrader, NOT Rep points

I was hoping to play but I will have an extra kid for the weekend so I guess no hope to have time. Or if they play all the time, I would have more time than normally .

I have saved about 1000 cancelled postage stamps so at least I would have material where to choose...

I went to soak all the stamps off pieces of envelope that I have been saving.
As soon as I poured the hot water on the stamps, all the Canadian stamps unstuck and rose to the surface.
Then the ones from European countries...followed by any stamp that was stuck to a security envelope.
Australian stamps were a bit harder to unstick but nothing like those US stamps stuck to regular (or manila) envelopes.

I have some hunting to do in my shoe box of stamps in order to find some that can be used for extended scenes. That sounds like a job for tomorrow. I found some old untraded cards that can be revitalized using postage stamps. I’m mentally ready to get going, but I may not have time until this weekend to post anything. But I am excited to get going again.

I don’t have any themes to add but I anticipate using my animal stamps along with a hand drawn original of my own. I have some nice whale stamps I want to use.

this is your 2 hour warning to start - set your craft table up, put on some comfortable clothing, have soothing music in the background and put the coffee pot on to brew. . .

I'm looking forward to this ATHON!

I recently bought 1 kg of Canadian and 1 kg of worldwide stamps from Oxfam Canada. I envisioned 1 kg as a big envelope. No. It's a BAG (bathroom-size garbage bag) FILLED with stamps! So I received a big box with 2 BAGS of loose stamps (off paper at least!).

So I'm all set... My significant other (Eric) can't stop himself from laughing every time he sees that box in my office. "You're never going to have time to sort all those!" He's not wrong. But it is fun to grab random handfuls and see what I have - ooh Nigeria with a leopard... Nice bird... Pretty turquoise.. train train boat boat ... if you've ever sorted random stamps you know what I mean.

Regarding themes, I ran across this Altered Postage Stamp set from 2020 in the swap gallery: http://www.atcsforall.com/swap685.php

They're gorgeous, very artistic. Might be a little advanced for my abilities, but could be fun to try. I LOVE the dresses made out of the US Global succulent and what look like multiple poinsettia stamps. They're all really creative.

If anyone is looking for something in particular in used stamps, let me know. I'll keep an eye out as I sort handfuls. Or if you'd like a random handful, let me know.

Oh my gosh, somnia, I can't imagine 2 kg of stamps. I have a shoebox full of stamps, but I'm sure it isn't near 1 kg. My source of stamps is my old childhood stamp collection, which I have been culling for the stamp swaps. I do have quite a collection of Hitler stamps that nobody will see!

    Beautiful start, Jo!

Oh my heavens, somnia, that is alot of stamps!!
Mine are all collected from envelopes over the years - though a friend did gift me with a container of old stamps a few years ago.

The self-adhesive U.S. ones are the worst. Some of the companies that sell stamps no longer even try to remove them. You can get older U.S. stamps off paper, but the newer ones will be on closely trimmed paper.

    Looking forward to this!
