2nd Photography + Artist Interpretation Circle Journal Group Forming! OPEN
Photography + Artist Interpretation Circle Journal Group Forming! OPEN FOR SIGN-UP
There will be two - 8x8 (sturdy) journal pages with an original photo (minimum size is 4x6) attached on one page and then the artist's interpretation of the photo on the second page. For example, my partner's theme is "flowers;" therefore, I would take a photo of a flower and print it on a 5x7 photo paper and attach it to the first page. On the second page, I would then represent that photo/flower in a collage, drawing (realistic or whimsical), abstract, etc - using any type of media that I desired.
Important Details to consider before you sign up!
The circle journals are limited to 6 members (5 sign ups + me). Each of the players are required to have a minimum of 15+ itrader points and have completed at least 3 successful swaps.
- These groups require a dedication of both time (5 months) and money (for shipping costs, for materials, etc). Please do not sign up if you are not sure you can provide both. It's not fair to the other participants.
Each month you will have a partner and will mail directly to your partner on (or before) a pre-determined mail date. Each person will have 4 weeks to work on their 2 pages.
Because these are treated the same as Pick-A-Themes (PAT) each person that completes a spread is entitled to a TRADER RATING. Likewise, if a person does not fulfill their obligation to their partner a Negative Rating is posted if one partner sends and is received, but never received a spread from their partner.
When you sign up...
* List your theme in the thread
*PM me your contact details. Name, address, phone number, and an active email address.
Please ask any questions before signing up.

Here's an example of the pages that I did for KatieV's "Road" theme in the first group - G-7 PAI Circle Journal

I've never played in a Circle Journal but I'd like to try. My theme would be 4-legged furry creatures (preferably of the feline family but open to other animals too.)
-
I'm interested, but what will happen over Christmas/New Year when the PO goes into melt down?
Also depends on what people choose. At present I'm fine with the choices, so I'll lurk and make up my mind later!

Ibus - Thanks for the interest. Let me know if you would like to join.
Everyone has to mail their pages by a certain date, so it may take a couple of extra days due to the holidays, but I don't forsee it being too horrible.
-
I'm seriously tempted by this- need to break out of the ATC mould and try my hand at something a bit bigger- and I love interpreting photos.
Oh shoot- I'm in! My theme is Boats (sailing, power, ships, anything to do with them really!) I have a few questions as this is my first attempt at these but will PM you
-
Boatbird - Welcome. I'll be happy to answer any questions that you may have!

Sign me up! I'll regret it if I don't. I'd like Insects and flowers as my subject.

Boatbird had several questions and I thought they were questions that others may have also, so I'm taking a liberty and posting them to the thread. My answers are in bold.
I see a lot of people are using 8x8 pages- if I can't find any is it okay to cut my own? ABSOLUTELY! Obviously using sturdy card in an appropriate colour if I can find it!
Do we decorate the backs and write on the fronts just in case people are using page protectors? I'd sign all of the fronts and then put your contact information on the back. I'd say to not have white backs, but I don't think a lot of time needs to be spent decorating them.
The photo's have to be our own or ones we have the right to use- ie copyright free- or someone else's with permission (and write who the photo was by etc) if we can't find good enough ones? Please use YOUR original photos only. If you are having trouble with another player's theme, please post in the thread. We can usually come up with an idea that is similar to the theme.
Mixed media is okay? I do a lot of ATC's at the moment using gouache, watercolour pencil and then define them with various other pencils and pens... Yes!!! You can interpret the photo in anyway you choose.
I am going away at the middle of October- but its okay if I have my stuff ready to go before then right? Once I know who is after me in the group, I can get started right away? That's correct. As long as your page is mailed to your assigned partner by the mail date, you can get started as early as you would like. You can also mail out your pages early.

Thanks for answering my questions Corrie- I will charge the batteries in my camera and keep the list of themes with me so I can start looking for photos to take. The only one I might have problems with is Rachel's at the moment- Cypriots don't go much for fences... they prefer concrete walls! But saying that, I am going to the occupied North of the island when I go away... could be something along the Green Line worth taking photos of.... I don't think I've seen many fences that aren't those awful chain-link netting type...
-
Well, if worse comes to worse, you can always go with the awful chian-link netting type. Maybe you could do a close up and "focus" on the pattern that is created.
-
I have too much going on right now, but please let me know when you do round 3!
-
Round 3 will be sometime next year, since we can only be in 2 CJ's at once... But I'll keep you in mind!

BAD NEWS...
Sorry, everyone, but I have some bad news. I overlooked a guideline that indicated that new CJ hosts could only host and participate in 1 CJ for their first time.
So, is there anyone in the group that would be willing to take over the hosting? Please read the guidelines here. It's fairly easy. Just need to assign partners and make sure that things go smoothly. I would be available to answer any questions.
On another note, I'm really passionate about this whole concept and would love to do 1/1 trades. Please PM me if you're interested.
-
Sorry to hear that! I haven't hosted any swaps yet so unfortunately I can't help.
-
Sorry, this is my first CJ here, so I'm not eligible. (At least that's the way I read it)
Put everything on hold till you can host it? Presumably in the New Year?
Elizabeth
-
I'm willing to wait too if it comes to that.
-
Please add me to the list, doesn't matter who hosts, or perhaps when the first one is over you can host a second. My theme would be unusual looking leaves.
-
Sorry about the hosting thing Corrie- I don't think I can help either as I haven't hosted any swaps on here...
But kysunflower- I love your theme! We have so many odd plants over here I can get some cool photos for yours already! There's some trees round the back of Debenhams near the harbour that have leaves bigger than my head! And the flowers are HUGE too!
