Hello all,
I am addicted to cameras and art photography, and if you are too, please consider joining my circle journal group. If you consider yourself an art photographer, and not merely a chronicler of vacation memories, you are welcomed!
I envision a 6-member group and each member chooses TWO themes, very simple, something the other members can easily photograph in their own vicinities of the world. One theme will occupy ONE 8X8 page and the other theme will occupy the second/final 8X8 page. Each artist will photograph something representative of the chosen theme and construct a page around that photograph(s) (a collage, a museum-esque display, etc.) with additional visual elements, like words or poetry (written by yourself all the better), as the artist sees fit. Behind each page, the artist will title the photograph(s) (and page, if the name is different), list the camera(s) and film(s) used, and include a brief description of where/when/why the photo(s) was/were taken (if you want to include additional information like F-stop, etc. please do so, but this is not required). Each artist will also include her name, email, and the CJ group name as well as all relevant dates. Analog cameras are encouraged but not required.
For instance, I choose the themes: old cars and cemetery statues. One page will be about old cars and can feature, at the discretion of the artist, colored photographs or black and white (though I prefer B&W) and perhaps she'd like to do a collaged border of many photographs with a smaller 3X5 matted in the middle. On the second page, perhaps she cuts out several statues and arranges them as faces in a crowd with staples and ribbons as the framing-border. Perhaps someone chooses "trees" as her theme and I construct a page to resemble a museum wall, complete with hardwood floor, and make a mock-frame of the picture, or I can have one photograph surrounded by haikus and poetry. As long as the photograph(s) remain the stars of the pages, all is allowed.
Parameters:
2 8X8 pages
2 Themes, simple
2+ Photographs
All relavant information on the pages' backs
Each member is free to dictate parameters for her own images, e.g.: "My theme is "women," but I do not want nudity, and I want only B&W images," or "My theme is "city scapes," and if you are into lomography (Diana and Holga cameras, for instance) I'd love images with those cameras only," or "My theme is "bar life" and I'd love double exposed images." Be as detailed as you want, but, keep in mind there are restraints on every other member depending upon where they reside or to what they have access. If one member cannot, and I mean CANNOT, fulfill a theme...please let your partner know ASAP so she can change her theme or give you another idea!
PS: A THOUGHT...PERHAPS WE CAN LOOSELY INTERPRET ONE ANOTHER'S THEMES, I.E., A MOUNTAIN IS NOT A MOUNTAIN BUT A MOUNTAIN OF CANDY. AN OLD CAR IS NOT SOMETHING ONE DRIVES BUT A HOT WHEEL OR TOY...??? Do not limit one's self to the actual object...be creative!!!!
Please follow general photography ethics! Refer to this wiki page for some further information about art photography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_art_photography
I would like to get this going, and if lucky, start the first or second week of May. If not that, the end of May or beginning of June.
