Chunkies: Found Poetry in mixed media collage due May 23
Chunky book swap: Found Poetry in mixed media collage
Due date IN MY HANDS: May 23, 2009
Signup by: Until full
withdraw date: May 15
Number of participants: 35 max
Number of pages: 4 for 4 or 8 for 8
Size of Pages: 4x4"
a journal page spread i made in rachel's accordion moleskine
This swap is for Found Poetry with mixed media collage! I was inspired when I was working on Rachel’s accordion moleskine journal which was themed found poetry.
Think of combining layers of collage and paint and whatever else suits your fancy, with carefully arranged words cut from old books, magazines, catalogs.
Definition from wikipedia: Found poetry is created by taking words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages from other sources and reframing them as poetry by making changes in spacing and/or lines (and consequently meaning), or by altering the text by additions and/or deletions.
Chunky Book Swap Guidelines:
1) Each player who joins can send 4/4 or 8/8 pages, 4x4" in size. Whatever you send, that is what you will get back in this swap. Please send your best work!
2) All players must pay for their own postage, including international participants. You can weigh your package and include the same amount of postage. The last swap cost about $3 in postage for 8 pages. International shipping runs about $5. Please send it as loose stamps or well concealed cash. I can also take paypal but please include an extra .50 cents (send to seasecrets @ gmail.com )
3) Bubble mailers—I will reuse the bubble mailer you send your chunkies in. Please be sure to include your address label.
4) All pages should be IN MY HANDS by May 23, 2009. PM me for my address when you are ready to send.
5) Backs should be decorated nicely, maybe some scrapbook paper layers or a stamp, with your artist info. Make them look good since they are seen in the book. Please use sturdy cardstock or watercolor paper. Cardboard from cereal boxes also work too.
6. feel free to add danglies: colorful fibers, beads, charms, found objects to top it off!
Players - when you receive your cards for the swap, remember to leave iTrader for the Host (me) and Rep Points for the people you received cards from!

curbsidetreasure,
I was wondering if you could post an example or two...or three
of found poetry. Could it be short like a quote??
thanks

it should probably be a couple of lines i think.
i scanned up the pages i did for rachel's moleskine here and you can find the found poem i made. it's bigger than 4x4" but try and be really creative in using words and phrases.

the most important thing is to clip words out - and arrange them in an interesting, fun and creative way.
