I started drawing a card of the skin (shell??) that they shed. I was looking at an image online for reference. When I got to the little hairs on the legs, I creeped myself out with my own card
    Back after a loooooooong break.

My cards are on their way!

At this point I知 giving up thinking we値l get any of the periodic ones. I致e seen some good years, once in Indiana and once in North Carolina. I visited Japan once and their annual ones were amazing to listen to. So loud!!

I'd like to sign up - alas it is not a 'big' year for us here in Massachusetts - I think we have to wait until 2024. Feels weird to write that as a date!

I'm glad you are joining, KaHeD. We haven't had many where I live. It must have been 17 years ago when I visited a friend in Maryland and they were everywhere.

Last year, there were all of these shells on our fence. I had no idea what they were. I'd never actually seen any cicadas, only heard them. Today, there was a shell near the back door so I had to knock it down. The shells on the fence last year would shimmer in the afternoon sun. I thought they were some sort of bee, and I searched high and low until I discovered that they were, indeed, cicadas.
