“MY IRRESISTIBLE COLLECTION “, ATC Swap, Open Media, due Dec. 3

I would like to join this swap, please. I am a bit of a pack rat, so I have a number of collections.

When I was in third grade we had to do book reports and I read the book Mr. Popper’s Penguins. That got me interested in them and was also when I started my collection, over thirty years ago now. I have t-shirts, jewelry, books, posters, a music box, even Peguinopoly, a penguin themed Monopoly game. If it has something to do with penguins, there’s a good chance I have it.

One of my favorite collections is my pressed pennies collection. I like to travel and always get them anytime I’m somewhere new if they have the machines to make them. I thought I had around 150 or so of them, but I just counted and have 235! It’s been a while since I checked to see how many I have and I had no idea!

Here’s a picture of one of my collections, ladies’ powder compacts and vanity cases, circa 1930-1950. A compact just has powder in it, pressed or loose. A vanity case has something else added, like lipstick or rouge, the old-fashioned word for blush. All have a mirror, and a few are not glass, but super shiny silver metal.View attachment 797741
I love your collection, these are so neat!♥

I have a few of these, and I always wished I had seriously collected them. I thought about making a charm bracelet out of the few I have.

That’s a cool idea. I never thought of doing something like that with them. I would like to display my collection, but I’ve never come o with a good way to do so, since I have so many of them.

Welcome les342! Thanks so much for sharing your collections with us! Hard to think of a good way to display the pennies. I might seriously consider the charm bracelet idea Asher had - unless some edges are really thin and sharp. I’d also love to see some items from your penguin collection.

Asher, I will be watching for your cards.

I am at work now, but I will take a few pictures of my penguin collection to share later this evening.

I have penguins in various places in the house, so I can’t get them all, but here is a picture of a very tiny portion of the collection.

Too cute! What a fun theme, people love penguins. I think I see a little salt and pepper shaker set in the front.

Cards are done. This was too much fun, I was supposed to be sweeping the floors. Anyway, I collect reproductions of Art Deco jewelry because I appreciate the Art Deco style and jewelry doesn’t take up much space—I think of it as tiny sculpture. Oddly, I rarely wear jewelry, though. But, if I’m ever invited to a gala, I’m prepared!

Thanks for sharing, Makitso! Wow, I had to keep telling myself these were cards, and not your real pieces- they look great. I collect jewelry two, although they are not as old as the twenties and thirties-no, some of the shell cameo brooches are, but the rhinestone butterfly pins are usually from the fifties and sixties. I enjoyed studying and researching about the big and famous costume jewelry houses here in the States, most back East. Those designers were so creative!!

This is only part of my curiosity collection. Thought a few of you would enjoy seeing it. Going in the window this weekend with a few new additions. I just can't resist oddities. One of my favorite stores was Obscura in New York City and I loved the TV show on the History channel.
Haha! There's the Frida Kahlo print I used as inspiration for the Finding Frida swap.

Yes this our house. and the sliders work so well for a window display. I am surprised the dog's noses are not on display too. They love to peek between the goodies to bark at the neighbors,

The first cards have arrived! The house-guest bats are visiting me now, before going to their new homes - Thanks, Jo.on.the.go!!

Cards have also arrived from Asher - really fun and interesting collections!
